Wood smoke for cover scent

I know that some people use a wood smoker on their clothes to cover the scent on them and it also covers human scent. What I would like to know if anyone has ever taken a wood smoker into the woods when hunting and letting it smoke. I know that smoke does not spook deer and I was wondering how it works.

i never new that. i always feared that it would interfere. maybe ill throw my stuff in the garage and see what happens.

Wood smoke has bacteria killing properties that may reduce some odors.

There is nothing that can hide one scent from another to a deer's nose.

They simply process and smell both scents.

SteveB, I know people that swear by it. If you go on other hunting sites and ask, people will tell you that they can't find anything better. Check out the PA hunting site and also Ohio.

I am saying it may work, but because it kills odors - not hides them.

May be semantics, but one you can do, but the other is impossible.

Last season I set up a tent style groundblind behind my house and put all my hunting stuff on a clothes rack. I then put a hotplate with a metal coffee can full of poplar shavings in there. I closed up all the windows and the door. Smoked em really well. I got busted maybe one time. I did read somewhere that smoke may be carcinogenic so you may want to look into that.

As I said above, they may have killed some scent with smoke.

They, and no one else, hides one scent from a deer with another.

wait...Deer can smell?...lol I have friends that stink. They never have a problem getting deer. My father used to use special detergent, and put his gear in a duffel bag with leaves, twigs, and acorns. Only ever shot 1 dear.
