G-Man
yes, it can be done, best if you can find some grafting wax i've had best luck using it, from mice or deer rubbing?

G-Man
You have to keep the grass back from the tunk regardless of mesh(they will go under it), voles are aweful. it will take 4-5 bridges to save a 2-3in diam tree, if it wasn't chewed below the root graft you can hope for a sucker to grow and become a main leader as well. get some pruning spray/pruning wax on the girdle so it doesnt dry out and crack over winter. so early spring you can attempt your bridge graft.
