Four Season Whitetail's
Yes we went down from the Gardeau overlook, walked around the flat area there then back up the hill south of the overlook. Then we tried a couple other spots on the West side but not by the river. How do you get across the river, isn't it deep in the middle ? Yes its deep if you cross the wrong spot. There are 2 place you can make it with hip boots when the water is right. This year it was no problem gettin across. We have poles that we use to get across with. It gets shallow but that means it gets faster and it will take your feet out on the slick rocks. Always use a pole for depth also! We sometimes tie a rope off from west to east and leave it across the river for the week we are down there! The park shuts down the river trips so there is no danger to anyone comin down the river. But we flag it to be safe! There are some places on that park that never see people after the season opens. A few ropes and a little work can get you into some spots that hold awesome numbers of deer!
hunter49
Always said these animals (deer) have have a will to live, especially after what we put them through at times. They are amazing.
132 eight pointer
I believe you that there are places no one wants to go.We didn't see much after the first week yet there is deer sign all over the place.Still not sure if I want to be crossing the river though. Lawdwaz
I give you guys credit for heading down for a deer hunt in the Park. I took my son for the youth turkey hunt a couple years in the Park. Hunted the west side and went ALMOST to the bottom. Incredible country! I'd NOT want to be hauling a buck up & out though. I'm too old for that much drama........<grin> Kudos to you! Edited December 23, 2012 by Lawdwaz
