Woodjr55
I'm heading down to my camp for opening day this year I may be going down Sunday to Wednesday. I know that there are turkeys on my property and the state land surrounding areas. I've seen the turkeys roost up in the pines on my property during deer season. The question is for people who use an owl locator call when is the best time to use it? Right after sunset? Or before any help would be appreciated
Early
If you really want to locate them, use a coyote howler...after sunset, just before full dark. Many on the roost cannot refuse to gobble back at that.
Woodjr55
I know it's illegal to use a electronic caller to call for turkeys but is it illegal to use it to locate? I have a coyote howler I just suck at it
Early
A coyote howler, played poorly...so poorly that it would run a real coyote off in the opposite direction...will still make a turkey gobble...............sometimes!
G-Man
I owl hoot from sunset to 1/2 hr after dark i also use a elk bugle, crow,Silent dog whistle, coyote howler, wwoodpecker call , and a peacock call. Some times moving 50 to 100 hundred yards up or down a ridge will get a bird right in front of you to gobble. I usually walk a ridge stopping every 50 to 100 yards calling and then come back the same way when just barely light calling again. I've walked by many birds and have them gobble 100- 200 yards behind me from where i called a few minutes before.
HectorBuckBuster
I used to have a locator called the Screaming Peacock and that seemed to work everytime.
