I'm singing the same tune but I only get Saturday and half of Sunday. Good Luck this weekend. The weather looks to be warming a touch but they will be moving getting their feed on after this cold snap we've had. I butchered my spike and I am having a bunch made into hotdogs. The kids love them and I even told them it was venison.

Zemm,

we love the dogs also. That is my job this weekend to bring home the "dogs!" My neighbor shot a bear last weekend, about 250lbs. It was one of the two we have been seeing.

He also hit a huge buck Sunday that was breeding a doe. The late rut is in full swing. Hope it's still going on this weekend. GL

Change of plans, I'm going to leave tonight. Weather looks good and I can get out by 9ish. Load up on caffeine and away we go. I never do this but something inside tells me to be at my bottom stand tomorrow morning. I'll probably just end up taking a crap down there! Good luck to all of you guys this weekend!

"I never do this but something inside tells me to be at my bottom stand tomorrow morning."

Got up there 3am Saturday, unloaded the truck took my gun out of its case and leaned it up against the wall of the cabin. It was 12 degrees out but the cabin was 62 degrees, real nice. (have you caught my first mistake?) Was down in my bottom stand at 6:40 had two small doe cut across the field at 40 yards around 8:00, I let them walk. 8:15 I look up and see deer coming out of my pines headed straight for me I lost count at 7, all does. The last deer was much bigger, these does were all yearlings, it was a buck! A nice tall 6pt was chasing all these does! Like I said they headed right for me and I had plenty of time to get ready. All the does stoped 30 feet from my stand, it was unreal. The buck came in and broke up the pack of does. He stood broadside at 20 feet, a chip shot-hole in one, right? I squeezed the trigger and heard "pop"-"sizzle" and some sort of projectile came out of the barrel looking like a flare that sailed 10 feet and then died in the snow. I don't know who was more surprised me or the deer. The buck looked at me and ran off. I couldn't believe it. Talked to my brother-in-law and he said the gun should of stayed in the truck and that condensation built up in the barrel causing the powder to be moist. Hence the flare of gun powder. Oh well lesson learned. That evening at the same stand 80 yards out I had six doe sneaking through the hard woods. I touched off a shot at the last big doe but missed. Sunday evening at 4:40 a deer entered the field that I thought was a big doe. Again at about 80 yards, I shot and again missed. The deer ran right at me and I saw it was a small spike. After this mornings hunt I shot three rounds at 80 yards, I was high by a foot! My back site had come loose and ended up stuck on the high end. Another lesson learned. I saw 17 deer this weekend, it was amazing. Picked up the three deer that were butchered, 150lbs of boneless cutlets and chop meat!

One thing that did alarm me was some trail pictures of some coyotes in the area. I was told these are a hybrid mix of coyote and wolf. They were real big and looked more wolf than coyote. Reliable source that showed me the picts. Sort of thing that would cause a problem to you if they were hungry.

Happy Holidays to everyone!

That sounds like a lot of exccitement!! More deer in a day than I saw all Gun seasons! I always leave my muzzleloader out in the truck once I have a load in it. I read once about the condensation thing and I guess I know it is true now. He will be bigger next year!

So what do I get for hunting in 15 degree weather for 3 days? The flu and slight case of pneumonia! Got out of bed this morning and felt like a truck hit me. Doc says I need bed rest for the rest of the week and maybe Christmas eve will be a go. This sucks!
