Was out in the woods today and came across this snake. Wasn't big but just not sure what kind it is. Anybody know??

Haven't seen one on long island since I was a kid but I think it's a hognose.

^{that's an eastern garter snake. Non poisonous but they bite and they spray musk that stinks if you handle them.}

OK cool never saw one like that before. He was def pretty aggressive.

Sure looks like the one in the pic. I've seen hundreds of garter snakes over the years but never one that color.

That's what they look like when they are in a defensive pose. They flatten their bodies and get a light blue freckled or checkered flag look. The one in the first pic was definitely pissed.

I haven't seen a snake all year until today, and I saw two.
