shawnhu
Yup. You're right. They're a little bigger than a quarter. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1385263772.340826.jpg Sears targets? They must be real old, probably vintage. Awesome! X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
BackWoods Hunter
Yeah. They're my dad's. We had the larger ones but we've used them already. I think they're the same ones we used to shoot at with a 22 about 20 years ago when I was a kid.
BackWoods Hunter
Hey good news. I have video of the deer I thought I shot from the following evening. Clearly he's doing just fine. I also happen to see him again today, although I didn't have a shot because he was on the opposite ridge that I was on. NFA-ADK
Just curious and not trying to get off your topic buuuttt, were you using your Model 70? I noticed in one of your pics you had one leaning up against a tree for a comparison to a rub. Also, what caliber is it? I have a Model 70 XTS .25-06. Best 400 bucks I ever spent. The guy I bought it from put a crappy BSA scope on it and that is why I missed my deer last year at 60 yards. I can't believe he put a $100 scope on a $1000 gun. Anyway, best of luck to you, I too like hearing your story. I have a Savage model 110 in 30-06 that I have used for years(Since 1988 my first gun.), nice bolt action very accurate. One of my goals is to get a deer with this gun, missed one due to a fogged scope. Lesson learned... My other main gun is a Winchester model 94 in 44 mag. Love that gun, easy to shoulder, easy follow up and easy to carry when I feel like exploring for the day. Only issue with this gun is long distance shooting. I am good to about 80 yards which in the ADK I have found is more than what I usually need as my longest shot was about 65 yards. I used a 308 semi auto but did not like the weight of the gun. Over under sights was the main reason I loved this gun so much. Accurate out to well over 200 yards with open sights and if a longer shot was needed the scope did the trick. I have a 30-30 I wanted to use this year but foul weather had me bring out the 44 mag instead. (I don't mind some rust on my guns but this gun was a departed friends that I want to last so taking it out in the rain on the first day was out of the question.) I never even took the gun out of the case as lady luck shined on me the first day giving me the best birthday gift ever, a 9 pt buck! And Thanksgiving with the family!!! Wow this would be the first week of my 2nd 2 week hunting trip in the ADK, so thankful I will be with family and not alone in the ADK for another 9 days! NFA crew should be back tonight, hope they got lucky! Safe trip home guys!
BUCKANDAQUARTER
Best of luck! I have something of a superstition when it comes to guns. My brother bought me a .308 when i was 16. my first sit with it i got my first buck. fast forward a few years and only a few deer later i used his 7mm08 for the first time. I had the biggest buck i have seen at 10 yards, the three position safety got stuck on the middle setting and i blew it. a few years ago i bought a traditions muzzleloader pursuit (which is actually a fantastic gun at a low price) and on the first sit with that i bagged my biggest 8pt. My brother then bought a Browning A bolt .243 WSSM and the first time i used that gun i got a 151# 5pt at 300 yards. I bought the Winchester Model 70 and on my first hunt with that I bagged a buck. Basically the majority of my buck take has been with guns that are new to me! I was thinking about getting a gun with a synthetic stock for the brush banging I do. I love my .308, every deer I have shot with it has pretty much dropped in its tracks, it is just too heavy for me to shoot comfortably off hand. I like my friends fathers Remington model Seven. It is a short action lightweight gun that i can hold dead still. The model 70 is comfortable for me it's just such a nice looking gun i don't want to beat the heck out of it! And of course thanks to this "SAFE ACT" I can't legally "try out" my bro's guns in the woods. I guess I will just have to add to my invntory. Good luck to all!! BackWoods Hunter
Thanks for the kind remarks on the story. I thought it would be a nice read for you guys. @Buck&1/4- if I had that kind of luck, I'd have to buy a new gun every season!
