Anyone Wanna Take a Newbie Out?

Hi. I have been trying to get my first turkey or pheasent for weeks. But have had no luck. I have been going out everyday.. The other day I was walking Gills Farm which is a pheasent release site and saw nothing. In the distacne I saw a man and he had a dog he had a few pheasents. I really wanna get something. Anyone wanna take a newbie out to get a bird? I would aprishiate it and I would drive. I live in Ulster County NY near Kingston, But I have no problem driving an hour or two..

Do you know what your looking for for pheasants? Not to be a wise ass, but first time I went, my friend spotted almost all them, until he explained what to look for.. Use your binocs, and scan the field, looking for an eye/band/head.. If you spot one, try to advance on it, and if you get close, run at it, you want the bird to take flight.. Running on the ground, you'll never get one.. After a rain is best, but a damp morning works well too.. Once sun gets up, they like to dry thier plumage in the sun.. Also, If you can drive a road along a hedgerow/field, at about 5-10 mph, & look just into the brush for the birds on the ground.. When you spot some, drive up 50-75 yards, dump car, don't slam doors, & walk back, off the road towards birds.. They're tough birds & will take a partial shot; then run once they hit the ground so be preparred to look for them..

Thanks for the tips.  I am going to go out and try again tomarrow. I keep trying everyday. I wont find one sitting in the house. But if anyone wants to take me I would love to get one..

hunting can sometimes be one of the most challenging sport/pastime in the history of the world.

the trick is to keep at it.

it will get to be discouraging and you may even feel like your failing or not doing it right but just keep on pressing and it will pay off.. pheasants are tough.. especially if you arent using a dog. turkey are swift and very keen.. as for turkey , the advice is have for ya is make sure you are fully concealed , head to toe, including your face.. and even your shotgun some people say makes a difference.. and try to be still any little movement will make em scatter. have you thought about using a decoy ? ive used them for turkey in the past while hunting out of a blind and had results 5 out of 7 try's.

but if you cant get yout hands on a blind and decoys , then hang by the edge of a field and hit the calls.  ..

keep at it. it aint easy but eventually once you do hit, the catch is even more rewarding knowing how hard you had to work to make it pay off..

Speaking of pheasants. When I went out last week coyote hunting,I put up a pheasant as I was setting up my caller. I started to fly into the woods only to get stuck and fly back out. It landed 10 ft next to me. I had my light on it making sure if it took off,it wasn't going to fly into me. It finally did walk off.  Just keep at it. I like to walk real slow about 15 - 20 ft and wait a minute then proceed. Thet get real nervous and will fly when close. I do the same for partridge.
