  1. Thanks for the Precision Bluing link.. As for the wet film transfer, I like the best, but many outfits don't want the legal issues of working with firearms.. OCC used a place in upstate NY for the 'Money Bike' fore a guy in NYC if I remember correctly..
  2. US Army Directive for camo gun painting.. http://images-kitup.military.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/Weapons-Painting-101_FINAL.pdf
  3. Funny Video, but downstate NY gun laws blow harder!
  4. http://www.gunsamerica.com has a few Ithaca 49's up, but all in .22..
  5. NYS roadkill is pretty similar. All 'finds/hits' need to be tagged, by yourself/licensed hunter if in season, or a LEO before you can take possession of it.
  6. Here ya go, right here in the Empire State! http://www.northcountrypublicradio.org/news/story/19086/20120109/feral-hogs-invade-champlain-valley-adirondacks
  7. Crazy story. How the hell do you say you fired at sounds of a possible coyote attack, without seeing anything?? Totally reckless beyond belief, and criminal charges should be filed IMHO..
  8. I use scent free seventh generation liq detergent with some baking soda tossed in.. No UV brighteners in it.. I also have a few old socks that I stuffed with crushed acorns & pin needles in the storage tote with the clothes.
  9. Found this list, pretty good stuff. Tells you what type of roadways run through state land parcels so you have some idea before heading off to the woods.. http://andyarthur.org/fodder/landpolicy/dectrucktrailda.html
  10. Bellmorekennels, please send along some of those links to me in a Pm. My dog is getting up there in age, and medical issues, and want the next dog to be a hunter. Plus, the wife has a soft spot on beagles, so one might be a shoe -in candidate..Thx..
  11. Use one of these in your gun, shoot any 30.06 load. http://www.midwayusa...teel-parkerized
  12. NYS is pretty big. Find state land you want to hunt, then start calling campgrounds where you want to go & see who is open until dec. If you 'explain' your hunting, some MAY let you primitive camp on the grounds with no utilities. In some areas of the state, there are primitive campsites on the state land for use, for free. Any stay over 3 days needs a free permit from the area forest ranger.
  13. SI deer & turkey are going nuts.. Wonder how DEC will propose controlling them in city limits to keep the anti's from foaming at the mouth..
  14. Great idea which I forgot about. I moved a 10 X 15 steel shed with 4" PVC ten footers, and 2 floor jacks..
  15. Congrats to on all the deer. All trophies, and some real slammers! Good Job!
  16. Re-reading your post a few times, its pretty vague on details, which part of the 'friends' with problems' called, and the purpose of the actual call, and the REAL reason for the call.. MYOB. Could be a witch hunt off jealousy, could be riling/loading up parties to side with one side or the other, who knows.. And you don't live there/with them.. Sometimes personalities & persona demons make life in a house unbearable when to the outside world everything seems rosey.. Unless asked, someone may wind up physically injured, I'd steer clear.. When the dust settles, you'll get a feel for the new landscape..
  17. If your putting this in a basement, may I suggest elevating it a bit off the floor? In any unfortunate event, water will collect in the basement faster than the floor drain will work.
  18. Never heard of it, but logically, it might be possible. If you think how your eye works, the iris 'opens' up during night to let more light pass into the eye. Get hit with a bright light at night, and you get night vision blindness because too much light enters the eye, over stimulating the optic nerve.. Killing a deer at night without spotlighting it would probably keep the iris open in death, and maybe 'iris' apeture diameter info is available somewhere..
  19. Sent an Email, will post answer..
  20. Shooting plain slugs out of rifled barrels is ok, just realize you'll need to clean that barrel out. As for cost, I just picked up 3" Remington Premier Copper Solid Sabot Slugs, PR12MCS, at Dicks for $15 & change, & they have a $5/box mail in rebate.. Gonna make a range trip this weekend hopefully..
  21. Depends on work schedule. Off next day, I cut. Otherwise, goes to the processor. Although I have a good butcher, I prefer to do it myself, you get way more meat than what most guys give. If I get too tired, I'll sometimes section a deer, drop legs & chunks in coolers on ice, and cut a leg or two each day after work.. Nothing like swinging a deer leg around the kitchen to feel really cave manly..
  22. Get a marlin 795. Dicks runs them on sale $125, Marlin has a mail in $25 rebate on it till end of year.
