Decent light for predator hunting

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a decent light for some night hunting. I have a small spot light that I got from Walmart that isn't too bad but just can't reach out far enough. It can pick up eyes at about 100 yards but hard to tell what the critter is. I know there are great lights out there but I can't really be spending 100+ dollars on a light right now

I use a rechargeable Cyclops spotlight. It works great, is pretty small and light weight and you can see your critters at 100 yards. It comes with a red filter, but its an LED light, with a blueish tint, and it doesnt scare the critters off without the filter.

Believe it or not the Black & Decker handheld that takes 4AA batteries is very nice and it's only $20.http://www.walmart.com/ip/Black-Decker-3-Watt-Alkaline-LED-Spotlight/16933433

I've never cared for rechargeable lights, I'd rather get rechargeable batteries and bring backups on all night hunts. I made a red filter for it.

A gun mounted light is the way to go. Handheld kill lights are tough when using a scoped rifle. When I'm shotgunning, I use handheld for scanning then switch to a headlamp to take the shot. I keep my hand light on a lanyard so I can go hands free and then switch on the gun light.

I wish I had all the money back I wasted on lights over the last 20 years

the best advice, get the best, cry once, buy cheap and cry every time you have to upgrade,

this is the best scanning light I've ever used, and I have 10 or so still laying around the barn
