sampotter
Ohhh that reminds me one weekend I was at Ithaca college partying. I ended up meeting two girls and went back to their dorm room. Long story short... They saw my dog tags and said "make love not war", "are you really alright with killing". The host hippie tree hugging people I've ever met, and they all were like that I've met. They were pretty nice though That's IC for you. I hope they weren't white girls with dreadlocks. Grossest. Thing. Ever. Has anyone shot a collared or tagged deer down there? cdmckane
No one hunted this 100 acres during regular season so these deer haven't been pressed. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk
KP33
Why is it so difficult to find private land to hunt in the DMFA - I thought the local farmers would welcome hunters to help with crop damage...disappointed, was hoping to make a trip to hunt shotgun with my son who just returned from deployment. He was gone during our regular season and I saw this a s a great opportunity to hunt together, but I cannot find one landowner who will issue permission to hunt their property. Zhe Wiz
I think one problem is that most private land is already hunted, and those hunters either don't want MORE hunters hunting during DMFA, or they don't want ANYBODY hunting during DMFA. Think about it, how would you like to let people hunt the private land you hunt now knowing they're trying to kill all of your does? I know one guy that owns a hundred or so acres in the DMFA zone. Not only does he not allow "foreigners" to hunt during DMFA, he HIMSELF doesn't hunt during DMFA. He only kills bucks, doesn't want to "ruin" his Buck producers by killing them. That's his belief and he ain't changing.
growalot
I was talking to our daughter about it...she works and lives down in that general area....She said from what she's gathered...and some of you can confirm or not this...I'd be interested.... Years ago this was not a problem...but it only took the few to ruin it for most in aggression ...trash...property damage and rudeness...to get signs to go up and properties to close up....then the deer started dropping fawns in residential and on campus areas...in came the aauuuhhhh factor...non hunting residences whether for or against it decide they were their "wild pets".
KP33
I figured that was the case - I live in a very agricultural area of Western NY and generally have good luck having permission granted to hunt private property. I've experienced the idiots too so I understand the frustration...just like the old saying "One bad Apple"..
verminater71
OK first thing you need to know, there's really NO farms in the area open to hunting / actually there's 2 but deer leave for the city limits by the time gun opens, I coyote hunted them this weekend and never cut a set of deer tracks the majority of the land open is Cornell land, buttermilk and treman park, that's how Cornell was able to set up the program the rest of the open land is owned by developers, Ithaca keeps growing and spreading into the countryside the average guy will never find private land, simply because there's just not that much available and the local hunters really aren't hunting, just guys from out of town, the major deer population is in areas you can't hunt, Edited January 20, 2014 by verminater71
KP33
I didn't realize that - I looked at the Satellite Image of the focus area and it seemed as though there were plenty of parcels that looked like they would be good for hunting... verminater71
there is quite a bit of land in the area that's great hunting, however most was bought by developers, with a few old world families that own land, however they don't work the land the farms I hunted as a kid are housing complexes, the main reason a lot of the land remains undeveloped, was the economy crash a few years ago, there's still a bunch of $$$$$$$ houses sitting empty it's pretty sad state of affairs
