He's taunting me !

For the past few days I have been seeing a good flock of turkeys in a field of the farm I plan to hunt on opening day. There are a few Toms but one in particular stands out. He seems to be the king s@#t. Yesterday A.M. I drove by and he was in full strut only about 40 yards, tops, off the road. I was thinking " what a nice shot"  The rest of the flock was  further back in the field, leading me to believe that there was a hen, close to him but just out of sight. This morning I did my usual running around and there he was again, full strut, all alone (from what I could tell). He was  right off the road. I hit the gas station and drove back by the field again, maybe 15 mins later. There he was, like he was waiting for me. He was right at the road. I stopped and he slowly walked in front of my truck, across the road like he owned it. He went into the other field, and just roamed around. Big Tom with a good 8-9" beard.

What are the odds this bird hangs out until May 1???

Good chance he'll be there unless some lowlife moron swats him out the truck window.

You're probably not the only hunter seeing him..Might be a good idea to have a " Plan B", preferably somewhere out of sight of the road.

Yeah …thats what Im thinking. Its not a heavily traveled road, but traveled enough. Its private property. Only me and about three other guys have permission but Im the only one who turkey hunts. But private property and posted signs  never stopped ignorant little "A"-holes. I have a good idea where they're roosting & so far my plan is to take the long way around. Just hope no one goes traipsing  through there before May 1st.

I like to get out on the road next to where i think they are roosting a couple mornings in a row before opening morning and listen for him to light up on the roost. Alot of older birds like to roost away from the flock. That boy you are seeing may be roosted on one side of the road and just floating across the road to the rest of the flock when he leaves his roost.

Be sure to..Put him to bed the night before opening morning. You will also see other hunters doing the same if someone is watching the same bird and has plans to sneak in and blow him off the roost.  Remember...There are all kinds of people!
