I saw a Deer Bark in Rangeley

Just finished my hunting trip in Ranageley and preparing to hunt NY after Thanksgiving.  I was sitting in my ladder stand and a nice 6 pointer came my way.  All of a sudden the deer stopped looked around and made a noise (the only thing i can compare it too) like a very high pitched bark.  It was spooked and ran away.  I heard the bark a few more times. 

Anyone else have this happen?

Ive heard they have found whitetail deer with sharp canine teeth before also. Who knows what lays dormant in there gene pool.

Do you mean a "snort"? I've never heard it referred to as a bark before.....................

I know it sounds crazy.  But it was a bark.  I'd had deer do all the other sounds but it was my first to hear a deer bark.  I found a link on the web of a deer (not whitetail) that made the exact same sound.  I'll try to find it.

I don't know what the roe deer was up to. Maybe that was a snort with a roe deer accent? LOL

Check out this video of a whitetail. The deer snorts a lot. Is this the sound? If so, this is their alarm sound.

I forget where I read it but there was a story about deer barking. Just shows how much we need to learn!

Deer make all kinds of vocalizations. Some of them are so rare that we don't see anyone talking about them very much. Just a week or two ago, Michael Waddell showed a clip of a buck making a weird noise that he claimed was something he had never heard before. it was something I had never heard from a deer either.

After 25 yrs of deer hunting this yr is the 1st time I have ever heard a deer snort wheeze.
