growalot
So I have mentioned that I planted SB in the lower field and those the deer chucks and rabbit Hammered...I have for years over seeded certain summer plots(buckwheat) with turnips with great results...hhhhmmm this year I did same in the 4 in high soybeans..so lots of heavy rains to get soil/seed contact...some sun and pretty wide open...dismal results ...Now in those thick tall beans on top of hill...sprouting pretty well in those ???? So I went down to plant grapes and wow they grew a bit...6 in. tall and dang if they aren't trying to set beans! little tiny purple flowers at the bottom...I don't want to waste any more PT...do not want to disc the beans I mean some not many but some turnips sprouted....do you think tossing out some rye grain would work?...at the very least the turkeys would come in and scratch up the soil..... maybe even releasing more turnips to sprout..or try hog radish...I want them going into winter with food down there...not sure what will be happening with these farm clover fields...could be plowed or cut short and manured...the other ag fields are corn that is chopped and oats...so come fall they are loosing a lot of food near us... G-Man
For an early fall plot , oats, or if you want it to over winter rye or wheat. Seed that doesn't sprout will be pick by Turkey and birds.. just did it over a sweet corn field that drowned out.
growalot
So you think that even thought the newly bought PT didn't sprout I wouldn't have to disc the beans to get the WR to take?...really don't know why PT didn't do well ,unless the pounding the field got from the rains compacted the surface too much, seeing there was little bean cover. HHmmmm.... there goes the light...keep beans until Sept then light surface discing and pound in the WR...beans would still draw for the month ..too short to set enough pods and would frost out soon anyways..Plenty of time to get the WR going....lord I must be tired.
