Hello all.My name is Sal.Although I'm a newbie on this forum,I'm 50 years old and have been hunting for 42 of those years.I'm a Life Member of the NRA,NAHC,and Buckmasters.I am interested in finding a spot(s) to do some newly expanded early season bear hunting in the southeast zones of NY.I actually just found out about the new early season for bear this past Thursday from a friend....otherwise I would have been doing some research much earlier!!! I'm an avid bear hunter having been on quite a few out of state bear hunts. My last bear taken was last June in New Brunswick,Canada.I live in Orange County NY and there just isn't a huntable population of black bears in my area.I would be more than happy to help out any property owners with whatever projects they have.Good Luck to all who give the early season a try.

I am in Warwick. Perfect timing for this conversation. This morning around 11 am i was riding bikes with a friend, we took a trail through the woods, leading to a big open field. Slow going on the rocky trail, 30 yards ahead walked what looked to be at least a 350lb black bear. Me and my friend turned around and rode off quicker than a blink of an eye. I think i know where il be sitting, come September.

Hi I also lived for year in Walden NY. But for bear each year we would go to 3rd lake and  hunt the area that was open to hunting from one of the large paper companies. Now with the tools we now have like a 4 wheeler I would hunt again. But years ago we helped some guys get a bear out of a bog, and that cured me of hunting them. The drag almost killed off several older guys and I was one of them. A bear for some reason does not slide like a deer, every stump or anything else it seems to get hung up on...

good luck and if you get one please post photo's.
