Peat moss

Do any of you guys use peat moss & if so do you use a certain brand or where do you get it from ?

I've used peat moss in the past. Home Depot/Lowes or a garden center will have it. It's nice that it reduces traps from freezing but getting a good solid "bed" takes some time. Make your trap bed, sprinkle some peat in. You still have to pack some dirt as close to jaws as possible and then use peat to fill in the gaps between dirt and jaw. Hope this makes sense.

Look up waxed dirt on youtube. It takes some time to prepare but works well.

I know a guy who swears by calcium chloride (rock salt) mixed in dirt when sifting I'm gonna try it this year

I used to use calcium chloride in my traps but the salt corodded the traps they became all rusted. I reccomend powdered antifreeze. Works the best

I honestly thought that but didn't know if the wax and dye helped protect them that much that it didn't affect them

It protects them up to a certain point. I had to use an insane amount of salt to keep the ground semi soft especially after a light rain or snow. After awhile the salt finds its way into the trap. Atleast in my opinion

Couldn't you use that stuff that isn't corrosive but still keeps ice from forming? I think it is pelletized but I can't remember its chemical makeup.

Yeah they got it in gander mtn and cabelas if u want to try it. I would get soil now and mix it in it while the soil isn't frozen and easy to dig. Cant hurt

Yup that was it. I didn't remember what it was called anti-freeze or not just what the container looked like.
