Spyderco Sharpmaker

Recommended Posts

Just thought I would provide a quick review of this sharpening system.  It is really, really good.  I like to have sharp knives and regularly touch them up, but this thing brought them to a whole new level - beyond hair shaving sharp.

I received it yesterday and spent maybe 1/2 hour touching up my hunting knives and sharpening a kitchen knife that was duller than dull.  All (7 or 8 knives) came out great, from higher end benchmades with s30v, to Moras, CRKT and even a Buck that I have had for 30yrs and never could get really sharp with my stone.  The most impressive was how it brought the very dull chef's knife to razor sharp in less than 5 minutes.  Well worth the $55-60 the kit costs.  Very easy to use too after reading instructions.  Almost foolproof - although there are probably fools that can prove me wrong.

I don't have the diamond (used for reshaping) or ultra fine rods and not sure that I need them, but will likely invest in those at some point.

Anyways :newrussian: for this product.

I've had mine for about 20 years . Nice is to see you have some nice blades and even know the steel !

I'm a knife guy and even have been in Blade magazine a couple times and wrote a piece for Tactical Gear magazine on knives .

Clean the Spyderco " sticks " with cleanser and a pad when they show dirt and they will cut like new again .

i recall that you like your benchmades too. after buying knives made of s30v, i have become a bit of a knife snob. resists corrosion, can be made razor sharp and holds an edge forever. whats not to like. the only downside is sharpening when dull because its a hard stainless. but if you just touch it up occassionaly, it stays razor sharp.

Right now my edc for "non routine knife use" is a Spyderco Yojimbo II with cpm s30v .

I often drop a Delica with zdp 189 steel in my back pocket for dally use.

Its funny though I dress my deer with an Old Timer Stockman with carbon steel blades that I bought used for ten bucks .

i havent tried a syderco yet. its on the list though. i will have to confer with you before my next purchase. lol

i really like the conveience of the axis lock on two benchmades i have. And the bushcrafter is flat out, the nicest fixed blade i have ever handled.

btw- i too use some "lesser" mora knives for field dressing and butchering. they are great knives for $20.
