2016-17 LI Zone Waterfowl Season Dates

Ok boys, it's that time of year again.  The LI Zone season setting task force is looking for your preferred dates for the upcoming seasons.  The Federal framework is pretty much the same, with a few minor changes.  The season for ducks on LI can be no longer than 60 days and may be split into two parts.  The season cannot start before Sept 24 and MUST END NO LATER THAN Jan 29, 2017.  Don't ask for a Feb duck season, it ain't gonna happen.  One big change is the Special Sea Duck Season is no longer authorized.  Sea ducks may be taken as part of the daily bag during the regular season.

Goose will be pretty much the same as last year, 70 days between Oct 1, 2016 and Feb 15, 2017 in the Eastern and Central zones and 105 days between Sept 24 and March 10 in the Western Zone where the season may be split into three parts. The Eastern and Central zones will have a 3 bird per day limit and the Western zone an 8 bird per day limit.  The Special late season that took part in a select portion of the Central zone will no longer be authorized, however, that area will now be included in the Western zone.

Brant will be (tentatively) a 60 day season with a 2 bird per day limit between Sept 24 and Jan 31 and may be split into three parts.

Those are the parameters, so let us know your preferences.  A split season with a Thanksgiving opener  then closing and reopening a week later to the last Sunday in January?  A "late and straight season" from Dec 1 through Jan 29?  Open earlier with a longer split?

We need your input.

Thanks

I dont hunt LI, but you guys have done a pretty good job with your season structure, pretty impressive actually.

Funny because the antis in Jersey posing as hunters on the internet who oppose Sunday hunting - one reason given is the number of hunting days under federal frameworks, we argued to copy LI season which includes Sunday hunting. Jersey would have slightly different migration and other factors, but not very different than LI.

Same arses pretending to be hunters in Jersey, in addition to opposing Sunday hunting, oppose state pheasant stocking, dove hunting, and spinning wing decoys - we got arses like that here in ny too.... People seriously believe these people are actually hunters..... We need to start vetting....

Thanks for posting and encourage participation thereby giving a voice to more people!
