Waterfowl/upland chokes

I've taken lots of folks duck hunting, n they typically show up over choked n miss. 

One year I shot 147 ducks, I know cause I was doing waterfowl survey counts for the state. I had to log every bird. My buddy was doing wing studies, he killed a ton too. It was a perfect storm of cold up north n warm below us. 

Regardless most birds were shot less than 20 yards using Kent steel n improved cylinder chokes. 

Steel will move most chokes up one size. 

What you all using n how long have you been at it? What type waterfowling do you do? We deke em all n don't shoot if they don't. Maybe it's the reason for close shots. Even hunting divers it's the same thing. 7-9 dozen dekes off a point on a reservoir. 

This is more to help newbies not shoot an overly choked gun. 

We use typically 4 sometimes the ic in 20 ga if we're doing a quick in n out than pheasant or other upland. 

While we're on it, for upland we use ic or more open, often w spreader loads. Makes it pretty open but this is over a pointing dog. 

How bout bunnies? Anything besides ducks, geese, turks I'm using a 28 ga. Again open chokes. Pattern the guns, I think most overdue it. 

Something to think about when you screw in a full or mod choke. Idk where mine even are.

I like Kent Fast Steel 4 in IC for most of my waterfowling, they shoot well and are reasonably priced

In  my Rem 11-87 I shoot  Kent Fasteel  BB for geese and # 2 for ducks with an IC tube, 3" 12 gauge.

In my O/U  I shoot Kent # 2 Fasteel with either skeet/IC or IC/Mod for waterfowl., 3"12 gauge

For upland game birds and bunny rabbits I shoot a 20 gauge s/s choked IC/Mod with 7/8 Oz. of #6 or #7.5 lead shot.

For pheasants I shoot  a 12 gauge O/U  choked IC/Mod with 1 1/4 oz. lead shot.
