Does government have the power to fund charities?

Recommended Posts

It has long been proposed the government has no power under the Constitution to fund any charity with tax dollars.

This story proves the debate has been going on for some time.  It also proves those who want the government to fund charities, will often not contribute to them directly.  It's easy to be charitable with someone else's money.

Stephen Moore: "One of my favorite stories of American history dates back to the 19th century when Col. Davy Crockett, who fought at the Alamo, served in Congress. In a famous incident, Congress wanted to appropriate $100,000 to the widow of a distinguished navel officer. Crockett took to the House floor and delivered his famous speech, relevant as ever: 'We have the right, as individuals, to give away as much of our own money as we please in charity; but as members of Congress we have no right to so appropriate a dollar of the public money. … I am the poorest man on this floor. I cannot vote for this bill, but I will give one week's pay to the object, and if every member of Congress will do the same, it will amount to more than the bill asks.' Crockett was the only member of Congress who donated personally to the widow, while the members of Congress who pretended to be so caring and compassionate closed their wallets. It all goes to show that liberal do-gooders were as hypocritical then as they are today."

They do it in the form of "Grants" ......Same difference and each section of government has their own agenda. Millions and Millions of dollars.

Here is a list:  https://www.grants.gov/web/grants/learn-grants/grant-making-agencies.html

The Constitution doesn't give the government the authority to give out grants either.  There are a lot of things the government has become comfortable doing because the people have allowed it to get away with it without any challenge.

You are absolutely correct my friend. Unfortunately "the people" are just as messed up as the government and everyone is going in a different direction with their own agenda and no common ground. The closest we came and will probably ever come to being united is when the country voted Trump in. Now that he is in we are beginning to find out just how far apart everyone is like. Crap like this Dem State Rep Warns Illegal Immigrants About Upcoming ICE 'Raid' http://insider.foxnews.com/2017/03/29/michelle-dubois-democrat-state-rep-warns-illegal-immigrants-ice-raid-brockton:

should not be tolerated just like Maryland wants to become a sanctuary state after a teen was raped by two illegal immigrants. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/03/20/maryland-girl-allegedly-raped-in-high-school-bathroom-by-two-teens-at-least-one-here-illegally.html

My question would be 1) Why & how are they here? 2) Why are they in our schools?

Without solid ground and common values this country and our government will fail. Trump nor anyone else will be able to stop it.
