ADK Native
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/u-s-military-might-struggle-to-win-or-perhaps-lose-war-with-china-or-russia-report-says/ Part of the problem is what General then President Dwight Eisenhower warned us was the threat of the military – industrial complex to make the war industry rich. Places like Afghanistan need to be left to their own future. American treasure of lives lost is not worth saving these places, while making the American arms dealers billions in blood money. South Vietnam is a text book example. Presidents Kennedy and Johnson were well aware of the fact many able body South Vietnamese men failed to serve. President Nixon "Vietnamized" the war in 1972 and by 1975 the communist had over run South Vietnam. It is time for our “allies” to take responsibility for their freedom and security. It has been reported that the majority of America’s youth are unfit for military service. That certainly would not help in a major conflict.
Rattler
Afghanistan is different because their combatants are training to come over here and kill us. Better to kill them there, where we control the battle, then have them here killing us through terrorist attacks. As far as the youth goes, modern battles aren't fought like WWII battles. Foot soldiers are not as effective as air power and smart bombs.
