WNYBuckHunter
If any of you are planning to go to the Amerks game this Friday and still need tickets, let me know. I can PM you a link to get discounted tickets. A portion of the proceeds go to benefit my son's hockey team. He and his team will be out there on the ice throughout the evening as well. Just thought Id throw it out there for anyone interested. The discount expires Wednesday at some point.
philoshop
My uncle used to drive from East Rochester to Newark to pick me up and take me to Amerks games when I was a little kid. Now he lives near Tampa Bay, Fla and roots for all things Tampa Bay. I talk to him a few times a year on the phone to bust his chops about abandoning his "home" teams.
philoshop
Do you remember Red Armstrong? Early 1970's "enforcer" for the Amerks. Tough SOB and my uncle helped me get his autograph.
WNYBuckHunter
Im too young to remember the 70s lol. The days of enforcers in pro hockey are gone. Its a speed/skill game now. Fights are getting more rare, but still happen from time to time. I kinda miss the old version of pro hockey in a way, but it make sense to have things the way they are now. You cant be paying someone 11 million a year and have them getting beat up.
philoshop
Picture Rob Ray without a helmet, punching the crap out of an opponent without a helmet. Bare-knuckle brawling on ice. Rob Ray is a great guy by the way. Very generous and gracious in his community involvement and a lot of fun in a bar. Great stories. It's hard to believe he would ever hurt anyone on the ice, but it was basically his job.
