rachunter
I'm plaining a weekend coyote/small game hunt.Normally I do this hunt up in the deposit/masonville area but the last few years have been unproductive.I've been looking around on the dec website and google earth and there seems to be a ton of state land in that area,I just never hunted it before and would like to know what the terrain, hunting pressure and other pressures[hikres, bikers, ect.] How productive is the area as far as small game and predator hunting goes? Not looking for anyones area just a starting point.
Rattler
There is a ton of land open to hunting there, but it's steep mountain terrain. Currently there is very little snow, but winter often provides snow that's 2 feet deep. Hunting pressure is almost nothing after deer season ends, and the past few years even deer hunting hasn't been much pressure. Very few other outdoor pursuits put any pressure on the area either. There are pockets of the area that will have decent small game hunting. Same for predators. But a lot of the area has little game to speak of, since it's such a huge area. You will see lots of bear sign in the remote areas, but the density of other game is very light. Lots of miles walked for every grouse flushed in most of the region. You really need to know where the pockets of game are in that area to be successful.
sits in trees
It's great for the big woods experience, beautiful but steep mountains. Old growth and low deer numbers. Yotes I'm not sure about but would think you need other game to sustain a good yote population. Shouldn't be many hikers now.
