Squirrels?

Recommended Posts

I learned that Red squirrels are unprotected in New York and I want to try and find a few in the woods. It is hard finding nests in the trees with all of the leaves. I have seen one or two running around in the woods. Any tips on trying to find a nest and wait for one to walk by for a blugeon tip?

Thanks

find pines/evergreens.. the nest will be close to the trunk near the top 3rd of the tree looks like a ball of grass.. look for midden piles of pinecone scales and cores under pines(will almost look like a pile of mulch) where they feed, if apple trees are near by all the better! reds are a lot of fun! and great practice for sharpening shooting skills. a good stand of pine spruce on stateland will be overrun withthem!

Thanks a bunch guys, I live in the 3A section in New York. I want to try and pick off some squirrels by my stand. They build up my hopes when I think it could be a big buck walking by when it ends up being a little squirrel. I thought about using a small rifle but a bow will be more fun and good practice.

Thanks again
