With the season a week or so away the

outlook for lower 3j looks very promising.

On all 4 parcels of land I care for and

manage including my own some very large

bucks including a very large wide 12 pt have

been seen on one property.I actually have a

nice wide 8pt yearling on my land he's been

munching my clover plot and nows moved to

our fall winter greens brassica plot not that

its come in.Anyway lower 3j looks very good.

Anyone else hunting this area feel the same

way.I just hope that my neighbors allow this

nice yearling 8 pt to walk another yr or so.

I feel he's got great potential.I think he's the

son of a nice 10 point I took last yr.He was only

a 2.5 yr old.

Where in 3J ? I havn't seen much up there for the past 2 years. One the last day of the season I saw 2 doe, and they busted me. Otherwise I sat in the woods for many days doing nothing, except looking at some nice rubs. Saw a nice owl. some rabbit. But no dear. and my DMP went wasted. I go just north of RT52.

I am around walkill but I am a land manager and I have

been practicing Q.D.M.A. for awhile now.I actually go

into landowners properties and help setup thier hunting

property.I topographical look at the lay out look for food and

water scources, woodlands, fields, explain what should be done

how and where to do it.wheres the best tree stand setup etc.

I just know that the 5 pieces of land I look after and hunt are

looking good.I can say alot of people I talk to in our area have

the same concerns as you.I have a facebook page if your interested

its hb venison processing.Look me up

Hi HB,

New to this forum and my first post.....I hunt in upper 3j, Kerhonkson, saw alot of sign back in sept and oct. I am a gun hunter only ....any opinion on the area i hunt. This is only my second season there. saw a 4 ptr last season but could not shoot due to AR. Many doe thru property so far and just rcvd second doe tag last weeekend. Property is between Berme rd and the golf course on Granite rd. Any info would be appreciated. If we get anything this year will bring deer to toms taxidermy to butcher.. any feedback on them? Thanks

The problem with butchers is that they are assembly line processers.

Iknow of several who cut deer up in lots of 10 to 20 at a time assembly

line type chances are you dont even get your own deer.Another thing

if you pay more than $80 its to much guys charging 100,110,120 then

charging $5,$6$7 for a pd of sausge or a pak of jerky its crazy I make

plenty of money charging $70 for a custom cut one deer at a time my

sausages are $3 per pd jerky is$3 per pak brats are $3 per pd and I

make corned venison for $10.There is one thing you do lose alot of

weight on a deer simply because they are big boned, and most deer

when harvested are young haven't had a chance to fill out yet.Honesty

thats just the way it is but I get more meat back then the bigger processers

simply because I do one deer at a time and dont hurry the deer down the line to

the next person on line.

Thanks for the info...like I said in a previous post we had two brothers up near Wyndham who used to butcher for us but age and arthritis has put an end to their business. Fins and Feathers is right in my home town. I have never used them but my brother has had a couple of ducks mounted there and they did a nice job. Always brought kill home already cut up so to avoid the inevitable stares from the animal right wackos going thru the city. Hopefully we have to make that decision this season if we kill some deer.
