13BVET
I had a 6 pointer at about 250 yards this morning, and most certainly passed on the shot. Definitely wasn't comfortable with the distance. I'm using 100 grains (white hots), and a powerbelt bullet. What's the max distance other people have taken deer with the muzzleloader? I'm using a Traditions Thunderbolt.
Tim Martin
I'd feel very comfortable with 125 yards. I know my TC Pro Hunter with 125 grains of Pyrodex RS with a 180 grain Precision Rifle load, is much more capable, but I haven't spent the time needed to feel comfortable beyond that. bubba
I like to stay within the 150 yards I have sighted it in for. Any further is questionable to me. That being said, I do not shoot any further with my 25-06.
tughillhunter
150 yards at best, not much more for me.
Recurver
I went on a muzzeloader hunt this year in N.C I shot a lot before I left,As guide said shots could be out to 200yds.I was shooting T/C Encore 110 gr bh 209 and shockwave 250grain.I shot a nice 8pt at 175 yds that was the longest I every shot a deer and it dropped right there. With more practice 250yds is not out of the question. Suilleabhain
Wow! That's some reach! When I read the title, I'm thinking 80 yards with my Hawken because that's about as far as I can see where I hunt. I've never even tried to shoot mine at 100 yards to see what it would do. I have to rethink the whole thing and try some different bullets.
