To anyone with an Iphone

Field and stream is developing an app. From what I understand it will be called deer camp scout map. Its a little interesting. It uses GPS to let you mark scrapes, rubs, droppings, sightings and tracks and compiles a map for you to see movement patterns of deer. Its in the works but from what I've been reading its kind of innovative. Just letting you guys know.

Might be neat. You can do the same thing with My Tracks and Google Maps for free. All you do is walk deer trails with My Tracks running and it plots it out in Google Maps for you. You set different types of markers for scrapes, rubs, etc. Ill be interested to see what they put together though. Would be really cool if you could add trail cam positions and link your pictures taken from those cams to markers on the map.

Thats awesome Ive never heard of that. Is that one on the Iphone as well?

Not sure, but there are plenty of GPS plotting Apps out there, should be one available for iPhones. Google Maps is available, but all you really need on the phone is the GPS plotting App. You want one that you can upload the data to your PC and then integrate that data with Google maps, etc.

No problem. I started messing with that stuff during this past summer but got too busy to do it properly, so I didnt finish. I plan on getting more of it done over the winter, while the trails, scrapes, etc are still visible.

Thats true maybe Ill jump on it sooner than next summer. I think it would definitely be a helpful scouting map after a year or so.

Yep, major trails, etc dont change that much and you could compare the new trails and scrapes to the ones from this year. Might give you even more info.

I have been doing this with motionx gps on the iphone for the last 2 season. it is a pain. you can only upload 1 waypoint for each map. so you can't see everything together on 1 map. plus you have to pay for motionx gps. I have been waiting for the deer camp app for a while and it is supposed to be free. i am hoping that it will let you look at all you markers on one map. I also like the field and stream rut reporters app on iphone.

very interesting ill have to check it out... i use my iphone all deer season for that sort of stuff. Always using using google earth & maps.

Another cool thing google maps has for the iphone is tax map boundaries. Depending if your county has the online GIS tax maps. Here in Herkimer county I can see where I am and where the property lines are. All you have to do is open google maps on your phone, turn off the satellite view, and they will be displayed.

Here is a link of all counties. If there is nothing under GIS, then you dont have the online tax maps for your county
