I HAVE AN OPINION BUT I DONT GET AGGRIVATED IF YOU DONT AGREE.EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN RULES FOR HUNTING.EVERY YEAR SINCE I WAS 18 IVE ALWAYS HUNTED FOR A BIGGER BUCK PASSING ON NUMEROUS SPIKES DOE AND SMALLER RACKED BUCKS.I HAVE SHOT A FEW NICE BUCKS NOTHING HUGE BUT MOSTLY OLDER DEER.AFTER A DRY SPELL FOR A FEW YEARS OF LETTING EVERYTHING WALK BUY I DECIDED ON A OLDER DOE.THAT WAS MY LAST ONE IN ABOUT OVER12 YEARS.BAD EXPERIENCE WITH IT.ANY WAY WHERE  I HUNT I SEE SOME REALLY NICE RACKS AND NO MATTER WHAT SEASON I SEE THEM THEY ARE ALWAYS JUST OUT OF RANGE,THEN KNOWING THERE ARE SOME REALLY BIG GUYS I LET EVERYTHING WALK WAITING FOR BIG BOY TO SHOW.WELL I ATE MANY TAGS WAITING THIS YEAR WILL BE DIFFERENT ALTHOUGH I WILL NOT SHHOT A YOUNG BUCK I IN MY OPINION RATHER SHOOT A DOE AND LET THEM GROW.I AGREE WITH ALL THE EXPERTS AND ALL THESE HUNTING SHOWS A SPIKE WILL NOT ALWAYS BE A SPIKE MAY NEVER BE A HUGE TROPHY BUT CAN BE A NIC 6 OR 8.ANY WAY THERE ARE USUALLY MORE DOE THAN BUCK AND IF YOU HAVE HAVE A TAG MIGHT AS WELL USE IT IF YOU DONT HAVE ONE THEN MEAT IS MEAT,AND YOU DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO

I have eaten many buck tags but I will take a doe before shooting a spike . I have passed on the spikes and small racked deer only to have someone shoot them on adjacent property and that's all right . We set our own standards and if someone wants to shoot a spike and has the tag , it's certainly okay .

I have never shot anything bigger than 8 pointers and I know that big one will be there some day . I'll be 69 this upcoming season so I am running out of time for the big boy to come along !
