In the wet area I hunt, poplars are definately avoided!!!! They look great, nice and straight with almost no lower limbs-but being up 15/18' attached to one on a windy day.... Makes you wish for claws instead of fingernails!!! Prefer smooth barked maples over anything with a shaggy bark. Like to know I'm biting into the tree with the stand and not just the surface bark.
