eagle rider
Any new info on boars in NY. The Cortland area was full of them a bunch of years back.
SteveB
It was never "full of them" and still isn't. This is a handful that move around alot. A few shot as targets of opportunity, but impossible to target and have any reasonable expectation of success or even a sighting.
squirrel slayer
im torn on this, i lived in florida for a few years and down there the wild hog population is insane. they had an open season and no bag limit, but i will admit it was much better eating than store bought pork. the taste was something id never tasted before and not nearly as fatty. id love to see a good group that made them huntable but also have to consider the damage they cause on land they inhabbit. they are destructive and nasty when they get cornered, but they are definatley fun to hunt and better to eat. Jennifer
I hope they never get established. Trust me, I would love the wild pork too-- I'm one of those hippies that feels strongly about meat origins (I don't buy factory farmed meat) and to take wild pigs/boars would be a blessing. BUT... the same could be said of many game animals that don't live in NY, and I don't think that they should be here any more than boar. We can't have it all! If anyone is fortunate/unfortunate enough to see them, I hope the kill is swift and it's good eating for you. My best wishes!
