It is scary where this country is headed. To us it is common sense but in the real world pretty darn close to 50% of the population is going to vote for one of these clowns.

And 50% will vote for the other clown. A shame that out of millions of citizens, we only get a choice between 2 rich people being controlled by other rich people.

  2. I'm not an AR guy either, mainly because I think they're ugly as sin :) I just can't find the appeal of black guns.

My opinion is that you can buy a really nice .410 for that money, but to each their own :)

    Good luck!

My wife can’t even be on the same room when I pour a Laphroaig....too smoky for her to even smell!!! That’s what I drink when she annoys me!!!

My wife says "Oh God, are you drinking your Bacon Scotch?" I prefer the Standard Ardbeg over Laphroaig, but I still really like the Quarter Cask.

I've got 4, I do like my Swiss Army watches :)

I've never tried the Double Wood, but I've heard good things.

Old  # 7..... I also like Crown Royal and some of the other blends...I can get by quite nicely with Black Velvet...

I  like GOOD Scotch whisky, but cannot afford it, and cheap Scotch tastes like s**t...

Don't be too hard on cheap Scotches, there are some good inexpensive blends to be had. Teachers is around $20 a bottle and is delicious. Talisker is a great Island single malt, and Talisker Storm can be found for under $40. Empire Wine and Spirits even has the Lagavulin 8 for $40.

  6. How many whisky drinkers do we have on here? I did a search of the forum and saw this topic pop up from a few years ago, so I thought I'd revive it. I myself love Scotch, especially Islay whiskies.

Though my go to for an everyday budget whisky is Teacher's Highland Cream, I've recently developed a taste for Tullamore D.E.W.

My favorite budget Islay is Lagavulin 8, but I would say the Ardbeg Uigeadail is one of the best I've ever had. If I want a real kick in the teeth, I go for the Ardbeg Corryvreckan.

    What's your drink of choice?

Been riding all my adult life, don't put on the miles like I used to. Today I lean toward older classic bikes that I like to tinker with. The top three in this list are gone, the bottom four I still have and ride a bit.

You know, all of the tough guys riding crotch rockets laugh at me, but I don't hear them laughing when the light turns green.... and they get so far ahead of me that I just can't hear them anymore :)

Texting drivers convinced me to sell my last bike (street glide).  Its fun but a little too risky for me now.  I am surprised that vespa pulls 70mph with you on it.  I would be turning my head too.  lol

73mph on gps, that's a flat stretch. Its most comfortable at 55 or so though.

  10. As I'm looking forward to spring, I'm not only looking forward to some kayak fishing, but breaking out my 2 wheeled ride. I'm curious who here rides, and what are you riding.

Now, don't be jealous, but my bike of choice is a 2010 Vespa GTV 250. I've had a few motorcycles, but this thing is the most fun I've ever had on 2 wheels. My wife "suggested" that I sell my bikes about 6 years ago, but after a trip to Italy a couple of years ago where we rented a Vespa for day, she allowed it would be okay for me to get one. One week later I was turning heads on my Vespa (maybe it was my 6'4" 250lb frame on a scooter that was turning heads).

Regardless, the things been solid for 2 years, have done some 8 hour rides on it. A year ago my wife and I took it up Equionx Mountain in VT, no problems, except stopping a few times to let the brakes cool off on the way down (just to be safe).

I always enjoy passing people at 70mph, it's certainly not something that they expect to be getting passed by. Additionally, coming from riding loud bikes, I do enjoy being able to hear my music/audiobooks while I ride. A helmet mounted headphone system was a great purchase.

I carry a 6" stainless Taurus revolver as more of a backup. I have been wanting to take a deer with it but the opportunity never seems to present itself when I have it with me. The one I love to carry is my Encore 15" in 308 Win. I didn't take it our this year becasue of the Filed to Fork people I had out. I figured I'd be better served if I was needed for a back up with my rifle.

That is a sharp set up.

  12. I used to hunt with a S&W 29, 44 Mag with the long barrel. I killed one deer with it (when I had a red dot scope), and then missed several more after I took the scope off because I thought it looked better. I sold that gun after having it stolen in Illinois, ad then returned when we moved to NY. I don't remember which ammunition I used in it though.

  13. I am a registered Democrat, and I no more support or associate with individuals like this than the average Republican would support or associate with David Duke. Please, let's quit casting the actions of the individual on the whole. Gun owners should understand the dangers of this better than anyone.

I'm just happy to see that no one was injured or killed by this despicable act.

  14. The rural communities in Illinois don't help themselves. One of the neighboring towns to my hometown recently had a coalition of started by folks from the 12 churches, that pushed the town council to not grant approval of a new liquor store, and pushed away a marijuana processing center that would have brought in hundreds of jobs. Yet those same people complain that new businesses won't come to town because of "the state". I don't regret leaving and coming to Upstate, we really love it here, though Vermont steals my heart every time I cross the border :)

Don't have one in the Albany area. Definitely sounds like a place I could drop a little $$ on some quality stuff. Will have to check it out on my next trip to Rochester.

There's one up in Saratoga/Wilton if you ever travel north :)

At least there are a few positives from the high taxes and dysfunctional politics:  1) Less traffic on the roads (many without the gumption, patience, or money to stay in NY have already high-tailed it off to another state).  2) Less competition for available "free" meat (by that I mean fish and game) from able-bodied people.   Retirerees don't put as much pressure on those resources.  3) The satisfaction of knowing that more of the money you earn goes to helping others than yourself.   That one might not be all that handy here on earth, but will pay off well in the hearafter, and that lasts forever.  4) Lastly, I can take the cold a lot better than the heat, and could never survive South of about Gettysburg PA.   For me, the weather here is almost perfect and better on average than any other of the lower 48 and I have been to most of them.

Coming from the rural part of another high tax state (Illinois) I can say that we see a lot more of the tax at work than what we did in southern Illinois. The roads a better, small towns have more investment, and there are many more social and economic supports available to those in need. Not many on this forum will appreciate the "helping people other than yourself" comment, but that's a difference of opinion. I agree with you though.
