  1. Fantastic information, thanks!
  2. I'm selling one of my guitars to fund a muzzleloader purchase. It's a black Epiphone EJ200SCE with a solid spruce top and eSonic electronics. I've got it listed elsewhere for $325, but I'd let it go for $300 to my forum friends. I'm willing to meet within reason to sell. Located in Ballston Spa, NY.
  3. I never was much of a trophy hunter, even though I lucked into a few nice ones now and then. I just miss being out and a part of nature
  4. Thanks for the suggestion, I threw on the other forum to see what they come up with. I'm kind of enjoying shooting off the hand. I did start using a glove though to keep the fletching from tearing up my hand
  5. Hi Everyone, Pardon me if this has been asked before, but I'm looking to do some 3-D shooting this spring/summer. I've googled around a little bit, but I'm not confident in the information that I've found. Does anyone attend any shoots around the Saratoga Springs area, and if so, where are they?
  6. My first deer was a 20" wide 9 pointer. He had obviously caught his ear between his and another deer's antlers, and had a split down the length of his ear. Fortunately the taxidermist I used was able to save the "split" so it made for a cool mount. Ever since then I've used the "Splitear" handle on forums. Leland is my name, so, there you go
  7. Hi Everyone, I decided last fall that I was going to take up some traditional shooting, and decided to go with a longbow. I made a wild $10 purchase on good ole eBay, and ended up with a fine shooting bow (after it got a new string). However, I have no idea where this bow came from. It does have some information on it, as a MEAD Fluted Bow, 50#, 28" draw. I did a little googling and found Dave Mead's site, but I'm not sure it's one of his (though I'm going to send it to him to see). Has anyone ever seen one like this?
  8. Interesting, I've never seen or used one. Looking forward to hearing about your experience.
  9. I'm sorry, that's one of the toughest things you'll ever have to do. Just think about the good life you gave him, and the good life he gave you.
  10. Right now, Public Land is what I'm looking at, unless I can get hooked up with some private land. I've never hunted public land, so that's a new one for me to. I guess knowing all of the farmers back home and marrying into a family that farms 9000 acres kind of spoiled me when it comes to hunting ground
  11. Yep, John's a good guy, and a great educator.
  12. Awesome, I actually live in Milton, just off of Rowland by Woods Hollow Preserve, so we're practically neighbors. Hey, if you are ever interested in 4-H Shooting Sports, hit me up, we have a training coming up in February at the 4-H Training Center on Middleline (shameless plug). Politics are what they are, I guess you just do what you can and get used to them. Illinois had some weird laws, but I never let them get in the way of an enjoyable time outdoors
  13. Hi Everyone! I'm semi-new to New York State, and am from Ballston Spa (near Saratoga Springs). My wife and I moved up here in 2014 from Southern Illinois, and I haven't hunted at all since we moved to New York. I've got the bug again, and am excited to start hunting again in 2020. Obviously it's quite a shift from what I'm used to in Illinois, but I'm looking forward to learning not only strategies for hunting in NYS, but also about the NYS hunting regulations. I am a 4-H Educator with Cornell Cooperative Extension, and am a 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor in the Shotgun and Rifle disciplines (and am getting Muzzleloader certified in February). I have a lot of 4-H Volunteers that I work with in our Shooting Sports program who will be a lot of help in getting me pointed in the right direction as I begin hunting New York, and I've already gained some valuable information by lurking on the forum for a little bit. Happy Holidays Everyone!
