  1. When I was trapping I shot my first coyote right between the eyes with a .22 at 3-4 feet. It just shook its head and looked at me. The second shot through the ear did the trick.
  2. If you intend on hunting coyote at night during deer season, should you notify the DEC first? Is there a chance you could get in trouble for attempting to jack deer?
  3. He should have retired 10 years ago. He got what he deserved.
  4. If you have never heard a couple of fishers going at it while you're in the woods at dark then you're in for a treat!
  5. Instead of frustration with archery hunters, I believe your frustration lies more with individuals who choose to make poor or unethical shots in an attempt to harvest a deer. The individual that takes a poor shot with a bow is the same individual that takes a poor shot with a firearm. Your frustration is felt by most sportsmen, but it shouldn’t be aimed at ethical archery hunters.
  6. Not all state land is forever wild.
  7. Ask for advice and you get QDM stuffed down your throat! Damn nice deer, and if you want him than harvest him! It’s your legal right as a NYS licensed sportsman! I’m north of you in 7J and the deer are JUST starting to chase heavily! There were deer running ramped throughout a corn field yesterday. Once they start chasing bucks get “preoccupied” and make mistakes. During this time try to get into your stand every chance you get. If you have the opportunity, set up a second or third stand so that you have options for different conditions and wind directions. This will also allow you to mix it up and throw the deer off. Good luck!
  8. We've been bow hunting in 7J just above the 7M border and the chase is on! There were a lot of deer chasing yesterday. I'll agree with the above statement, the most deer movement has been with the worst weather.
  9. All three of our kids have been hunting with me since they were five. The oldest lost interest when he was around 13 years old. The 12 year old has been bow hunting this year and loves it. My 10 year old daughter sits with me once a week. They both love being in the woods. Hopefully they will continue to participate in the outdoor sports throughout their lives.
  10. Two years ago I had a young red tailed hawk come in at me while I was in my tree stand. He never made contact, but he was hovering just out of reach trying to get at me. He landed about 10 feet away on a branch and screeched at me. Once I removed my camo headgear he realized something and flew off.
  11. That pic has been floating around for years. I have had it emailed to me twice saying it was hit at different locations in CNY. Who knows where that was really hit.
  12. This is a great hunting camp in Brookfield, NY. It’s surrounded by the Charles E. Baker State Forest (9,400 acres). I’ve been hunting at this camp for the past 5 years with 3-4 other consistent hunters, and 4-5 visiting hunters. We harvest an average of 7 bucks and 9 doe form bow season through muzzle loader season. Many diverse hunting opportunities from large swamps, hilly hardwoods, beaver ponds, large pine stands, and open meadows. If anyone has any questions let me know. 13. This is a nice site, but I don't visit as much as I do other hunting sites. The new format is extremely slow and it gets frustrating after reading a few posts.
  14. I had a similar problem when I first purchased my CVA Kodiak. It ended up being the cheep plastic rear sight on the gun. It would move every time I shot. I replaced it with an aftermarket metal and fiber optic sight and was able to sight the gun in. It was a very frustrating introduction to muzzle loading.
