  1. Thanks guys, ever since I got my first buck back during shotgun season of 07' I've been hooked....BIGTIME, lucky for me I have a handfull of close friends who feel the same way about hunting as I do, and even luckier for me one of them has a real nice chunk of land. This summer will be big for us as we are getting ready to put in some food plots and really begin to work together as a Hunt Club. When it comes to harvesting a buck on our property our rule of thumb as of now is Minimum of 110 inches during Bow Season and 120 inches during gun, with cash penalties going to a club "kitty". No that my football playing days are over Hunting has filled that void and theres no feeling like the anticipation before the start of hunting season. I really love following this site and sharing/hearing other stories and tips from hunters in the area. Hopefully we will have some more luck during the Spring Turkey season with a few more pics and stories to share. Good Luck everyone.
  2. A 3 buddies and I started our own "Hunt Club" this year. My friend has approx 300 acres of land in the Farmington/Canandaigua area as our Club Property. We have enlisted rules & regulations and practice QDM. Here are some of the Deer we took this year.
  3. Congrats on the new gun. I saw your reply to my post (thanks for the scope advice.) I am not sure when I am going to get a scope for this gun prob won't be for a few months and I will be curious to know what you end up going with and how that works for you. Keep me posted.
  4. Ya I fell in love with this gun the moment I saw it. I ended up ordering it from a proshop in Ohio for around $615...msrp was $772 I think. Had to pay an additional $30 to have them ship it to Bass Pro (Firearm regulations) so I ended up paying around $650 total....saving over 100 bucks off the MSRP price. That was the best I could find. I will be doing the same with the scope and wanted to hear some opinions. Thanks guys
  5. Got this gun in the Middle of Southern Zone Shotgun Season. Still need to outfit it with a scope, Been looking at some of the Nikon Pro-Staff's. Any opinions on a reliable solid scope for this gun. Anyone who has shot ow owns this gun your thoughts? Really looking forward to letting some lead fly this spring!
  6. Check Out www.camofire.com...great site have an array of hunting gear from 45%-60% off retail price. I just ordered a pair of Sitka Celsius Bibs in mossy oak that retail for as much as $250 (http://www.sitkagear.com/Product.aspx?cat=35) for around $140 they just came in and I am very happy with them. You can program the site to your cell phone so you can get text updates on what new deals they have for the most part they sell out very quickly so this feature I take advantage of. I have gone through them and ordered everything from base layers to raingear, and have always been happy. I would never pay the retail on this sort of gear (I love hunting but a jacket for 600 beans is just a tad outta my league.) This site allows guys like me to get great gear at awesome prices.
  7. I took meat to Costanza's in Webster last year and had some sausage made and it was killer. http://www.costanzasausage.com/home.htm
  8. You can look at it this way too...not many hunters are going to want to talk or post about the one that they wounded or could not find...it happens all the time maybe this year we just have more hunters opening up about their unfortunate situation. I bet if we were able to compare the numbers (deer hit but not recovered) year to year they would be very similar. That being said if we are ever put in this type of situation when we get home at night and look at ourselves in the mirror and can honestly say I've done all I could (practiced, gave the deer time to expire, made sure my bow is "tip top" called the searchers etc etc) then we just have to learn to be contempt with that. Is it going to sit with you for a while, of course its gutwreching but as stated in a earlier reply, learn from it and do everything in your power to minimize the chances of repeating this scenario.
  9. I agree with Solon...Tiffany Lakosky for obvious reasons...in all seriousness Ted Nugent not so much for his knowledge on the Outdoors but his principals and what he stands for. I think I could sit and talk hunting and rock and roll with him for hours.
  10. I am looking at a new bow for this upcoming season. I had collected $500 dollars worth of gift certificates for Bass Pro and plan on using them towards a bow. I really liked the look of the Fred Bear Attack and from what I've read on-line they have had great reviews. I plan on going back and shooting a few of the bows so I can make an "educated decision" before deciding to go with one or another. Any insight from someone who has shot, seen, heard anything about the Bear Attack?
  11. Ya it is thanks for the tip, I had never heard of steepandcheap till now.
  12. camofire.com they sell 1 item at a time and offer a wide range of hunting gear. Basically they give 50% off or more on each item. When it runs out they sell a different item. I get updates to my email so if something I am in the market for is up I can get it before it sells out. Have bought camo jackets, pants, and they we're great and you can't beat the price!
  13. Live in Rochester. I hunt in in Wayne/Ontario Counties...fish all over the finger lakes.
  14. Great pic, real nice quality with the home brew. Can't wait to see some of these guys and how their racks turn out in the next couple months!
  15. I raked it out and threw some grass seed down...it was just starting to come up when I retrieved my memory card. Other then grass is there any food sources (Clover maybe?) that would attract deer that can flourish without much maintenance and low light? I only get back home every couple weeks so I wanted something that I wouldn't have to tend to and because of the overgrowth not much light gets to the ground.
  16. Had these from early June.
