LIVE from the woods 2015 Edition! - Sixth Year Going Strong
Burden24 replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
I haven't posted all year, but couldn't help myself. This is entertaining and mind boggling reading this on stand right now. I can't put my phone down either haha -
6:24 Boom!! Weekend warriors are letting them fly. Good lord. I hate gun season, no respect or morals from some folks.

You think that maybe just once they could forecast the wind correctly!

It's sighting in day for the orange army. The Saturday before gun season always sounds like opening day. Everyone dusts the remington sluggers and takes a couple shots. Haha

Yeah I know, that city ruins the good parts of the state. At least I can say I voted to try and make a difference. That way it's ok for me to still complain about him

Left the house with a 5 mph southwest wind. Now it's about 20 mph West. This season is crazyyy weather wise. All strapped in so I'll just ride it out.

I see they have upped the wind speed for tonight and tomorrow with gust up to 25mph in 8h. Man weekend weather has been awful this year.

My day started by finding out dead down wind hair soap is not a fan of your eyes haha. Nice morning though, enjoying the wind being light for once.

Research from multiple studies have proved over and over that the moon phase, and weather have nothing to do with the timing of the rut. There is evidence showing the smallest change from these factors but breeding always took place around the same time period each year. It's simply when does are ready to breed. Weather warm or cold may change it by the slightest variation but not much. It doesn't matter if it's 70 or 20 degrees if the does are ready to breed they're going to be rutting. Yes there may be a doe that comes into heat earlier then others and gets them going more, but most fall in the same time period year after year. In fact there was just a great write up in the most recent outdoor life magazine by Dr. Grant woods further proving this point. It was a good read.

Because the people that vote for a Cuomo type can't afford them -
Doesn't matter what broadhead you shoot or the size of the hole. If your placement is good any head will get the job done. I shoot slick trick mags. If I was going to shoot a mechanical it would be the ulmer edge. I'm shooting 70#,gold tip 7595 that are 10.2 gpi. It's usually through them before they know what hit em.

I'm extremely hard on boots. All I wear is rubber boots. I had mucks, lasted two seasons before they sprung a leak. Out of warranty after a year on them. Bought under armour spinex last year. Toe was coming apart just the tiniest bit this year. I emailed under armour Sunday evening and told them for $180 I expected more from them for that price. Monday morning someone personally called me from under armour and it was an American haha. I was in shock. She told me there was a lifetime guarantee on all of their products. She told me I could exchange for the same pair or a different pair for the $180 price. I told her we were in the middle of hunting season and she overnighted me a new pair of UA HAW 800g boots that I chose with a return label for the other ones. She said just save the receipt and order number and no matter how many yrs from now the warranty is lifetime for the original price I payed of $180. Now that's standing behind your product! And the UA boots are way more comfy then mucks. They have a awesome heel support in them.

I shot my first P&Y back in 2003, dressed it was 206 lbs. I had the deer aged and it came back 5 an 1/2. I have yet to see a deer that size since. The other big ones I've shot, I'm always like man that's a big deer. Then I weigh it and it always seems to come back 140-160 dressed. I think alot goes into the size of the deer habitat, age, time of year shot, etc. 200lb deer are out there, just good at hiding from us I Googled heaviest deer taken in NY for kicks and it came up a hunter in 1946, with the deer officially weighing in at 291lbs dressed. That is crazyyy if that's true

So true, a case of beer and some Omaha steaks can go a long way at Christmas time. If they left a note on your car rather than coming to talk with you directly after 10 years makes me think that you didn't associate with them much. I don't know the details of your situation though.
