  1. Couldn't agree more...saw fewer deer than ever last year with all the apples, nuts and standing corn available nearly all hunting season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. 54 days until NJ early archery opener. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Typically wild overgrown apples fruit every other year or less frequently. All of my trees that produced last year are bare...my compsular which did not produce last year is having a bumper year, no late frost after bloom here in 7j. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Did mine last week...I hope you get cooperative weather, so far so good for me this season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Plot, bathroom and fawn progress: The Diamond Plot is growing strong and attracting lots of visitors: Floor, plumbing/sanibest, fan/light, electric, ceiling and shower are installed: I call him Augustus because he already has a roman nose: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. If that falls thru I'll take back-up dibs if you don't already have a back-up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. No dice...that's like trying to sell me Clark Kent!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I've only got one of your dekes on my wish list...The almighty Turkenstein! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. As my plots received a little moisture...Bathroom project day 2, finished three walls of the framing: Framed and notched shower platform, dry plumbed and dry fitted shower base: Applied 100 lbs leveling compound to deal with some surface irregularities: Tomorrow frame ceiling nailers, install fan/light and Sheetrock the ceiling. Then tile the floor, then finish the shower framing and then install the shower. In the meantime I'll take some more rain. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Thanks that's a real compliment coming from the growmaster herself. It has been hard but fun. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Just planted my other plot this morning: http://huntingny.com/forums/index.php?/topic/22241-First-Plots/page__view__findpost__p__309010 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Got out this morning and did some chores at the lease in anticipation of some potential precipitation: I was gonna till the boomerang plot, but when I got there I noticed first that the buckwheat had started to go to seed: No big deal I was gonna put a little buckwheat in the mix anyway for weed suppression, instead I'm just leaving the volunteers. Also I hit it with fertilizer so no big deal on the nutrient loss to the seeds. Second thing I noticed was the clovers I had overseeded the Boomerang with in the spring were really strong even under the thick buckwheat: So I decided to just overseed the plot with my BF Oats, PT Turnips, Sugar Beets and a pinch of Alyce and Crimson Clovers and some 13-13-13: Then I mowed with my Stihl trimmer leaving the trimmings as mulch/seed cover: Then I went to the Diamond plot to change batteries/cards and check on the Milo, beans, peas and clovers: Doing a rain dance now before I start a non-stop week long bathroom build here at home...I'm hoping for some luck on both fronts. 13. I just mentioned this in another post but it is typical that wild/overgrown apples only will produce every other year or even less frequently. This happens to a greater extent the year after exhausting energy producing a bumper mast. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. As long as we don't finish up too dry or too wet it has been a perfect Turkey poulting season/spring plot/fall plot Summer here in 7j! We also have a bunch of apples on trees that did not produce last year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. If they are wild/grown-over trees then I wouldn't count on it...from my experience they rarely produce heavily two seasons in a row, more often than not they produce every other year or even less frequently.Obviously if you are cultivating these apple trees producing apples every year is the idea. Personally I felt the glut of apples and other mast and oceans of late standing corn hurt my deer sightings last season...I'm sure it also helped the herd survive a tough winter. Either way I wish you luck with the rapidly approaching season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Exclusively wildlife harvest plots...there is a lot of ag around my lease to serve as nutritional plots though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I've decided to try Milorganite as a temporary deer deterrent on my fall plots, but I was thinking of doing it a little differently. I was thinking of storing my regular 13-13-13 pellet fert with a ratio of Milorganite and then after several days broadcast the mixed fertilizer. I'm planning this for 2 reasons... 1. I want more nutrients than Milorganite provides. 2. I am hoping the deer repelling fragrance of the Milorganite will be infused into the 13-13-13 and thus increase the volume of unfavorable odors. I'll keep this and my plot log posted with progress. Here is a log of my plot progress thus far this season: http://huntingny.com/forums/index.php?/topic/22241-First-Plots Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. A couple weeks ago I mowed/tilled 1 of my buckwheat/peas plots and planted WGF Sorgum, Soybeans, FM Peas and Annual Clovers: http://huntingny.com/forums/index.php?/topic/22241-First-Plots/page__view__findpost__p__306856 It's greenin up nice might have to hit it with some milorganite: I'll be mowing/tilling my other buckwheat plot this Friday in prep for anticipated rain: Planting it in BF Oats, PT Turnips, Sugar Beets and Annual Clovers. Good luck to all! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. That means less than 70 days til Jersey bow season... To quote a "celebrity hunter:" "You're gonna have to give me a second!" Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. From what I understand if you are planting a field of them by themselves for the purpose of sugar production you are probably a little late. That said if these beets are deer forage you should be fine. And if you are mixing with other forage like Purple Top turnips, clovers, oats it will matter even less. I'm planting a similar mix to the above next week...my only concern is rain: http://huntingny.com/forums/index.php?/topic/22241-First-Plots Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
