  1. Does anyone think I am trying to much to fast for my first food plot and I should just plant say a clover(white) and a cereal(oats) instead of the mix I opened this topic with?
  2. Ok I be seen a nice buck in a similar area but not near homes.
  3. I hope that's not the "Sump Buck" I know of and want to slide an arrow thru. If it is I would have been in my stand this a.m. waiting for him. But when the alarm went off I hit snooze and the windy weather blew me right back to sleep.

  5. Headed out for a morn/ evening (somethibg to di midday) sat, then a full day sit Sunday. I saw a 6 upstate ignore 2 does on tues sound like Charles Alshemeir from D&DH was correct about the trickle rut. And that if you have a hot doe nearby game on if not maybe a slow sit.
  6. I hear ya about the last hour the small buck I saw the other night came in the last 2 min. However heading in the same direction is a good thing you can find a way to slip further toward them with out bumping them. Shoot me a pm what property do you hunt I am the only person I know hunting out here we can compare some notes maybe.
  7. Thanks a lot your replies are always very informative I was planning on mixing my own that was the blend I found surfing the web for wet/moist soils I have looking at welther seed I believe it is. Prices seem good.
  8. What would you suggest to replace buckwheat or it that mix (I found on the Internet) total garbage and just replace it.
  9. I'm now considering some dunston chestnuts after reading all about them. Also in anyone's opinion the photos I posted does it look like that land will be hard to work down to manageable soil and does anyone have suggestions for how to do it. It was thinking of a dr brush mower (I've used one before and they are badass), the a raking of some sorts, then a rear tine walk behind tiller follow by a lawn roller.
  10. Good luck those things humble me every jan-feb upstate you hear then never see them
  11. Awesome post! Thank you maybe I will go with some sort of maybe of the Xmas tree variety for cover. See that is why I posted this so early to get all this valuable info before spring.

  13. Cut not cig from the last post. But side work was canceled today so I went back out for the afternoon/evening had one small buck come in make a scrap and close the distance to 20 yards at sunset I drew when he was behind a tree bc tonight I was shooting a nice buck or a doe he stepped out I saw his head gear and decided he was neither. He busted me anyway and turn to go back the way he came. First deer sighting on the public land I hunt all season I was beginning to think I was barren waste ground.
  14. I do full days in late oct early to mid nov I have to conserve those I do morning and evening now bc of work ill cig if short one way or another
  15. Lol I don't know where that smiley face came from.
  16. I agree when I hunt public land I am always prepared that I might arrive later then someone and we are only allowed a certain number of hunters per spot and I would have to hunt elsewhere. I wouldn't hunt someone else's stand however, when I do come across them a) if someone is in it I would find another area. if I set up my climber near an unoccupied ladder stand and the owner comes and occupies it while I am hunting that area. That stand will not be there the next time he arrives. Just the same as I would lose it if you came in and gave me a wave then climbed a tree 100' from me. Having your stand in the woods all year doesn't make it your spot.
  17. Couple of hours this am not a deer
  18. I will look into the permit bc my brother saw one last year and didn't shoot it bc we weren't sure. Thank you.
  19. Looks like rain after 10 am tomorrow I'm headed out for few in the am before work ill post back.

  21. Oh man I guess I won't bother it's not a residence it's only hunting property sonic the deer don't eat no reason to plant. Maybe bears though.
  22. I am actually more concerne about the deer eating them. (I want them too.)
  23. Anyone every plant fig trees? I am in Sullivan county and was going to give it a shot.
  24. Hunted today public land new spot had high hopes 2- dark no deer. Ill try agin fri am
  25. I googled this same topic and found some mixtures I am trying next year. I posted them in the topic I just made called next years food plots. I researched all on the seeds and they all say for wet soil. I will typically will not have standing water as long as every time I visit my property I reverse the work of the resident beaver but it is damp. Lol what I am thinking of doing is a .22 mag between his eyes though.
