Yes, you can tell if you know what to look for. It's easier to tell an old buck from a doe, than a young buck from a doe. There are many things you need to look for that add up to a buck track for sure. Evidence it's a buck track include these things. The size of the track, (the bigger it is, the more likely a buck). The deeper the track, (heavy bucks leave deep prints in the ground). If it is more rounded, than pointed at the front (bucks wear the front of their hoofs by scraping more). If the track moves in a straight line, rather than meandering and stopping a lot. If the tracks point out away from the center line rather than align parallel with it. If you see a urine stain in the snow that is off to the sides rather than in the middle of the tracks. If you see antler tip marks in the snow where the deer put it's nose to the ground. And any other obvious signs above the ground, like antler rubs or broken twigs where a deer moved through dense brush. Determining if a track was made by a buck or doe is a preponderance of evidence more than just what you see in one or two tracks. You just need to know what signs and evidnce to look for as you follow the tracks. There are some good books on the subject. Check out books by the Benoit Family of Vermont. They only hunt big bucks and they only hunt by tracking. They are considered the best there is. Following the tracks and taking that buck, is a whole nother chapter in the book of tracking deer. And it takes much more experience and skill than just being able to identify the track as a buck. Good trackers have spent a lifetime learning the skills, and often they had an expert for a mentor. Tracking deer is an art that is almost lost amongst today's deer hunters.

I'd buy the land that borders what I already have, just to have a bigger parcel to hunt on. Land is always a good investment. They ain't making any more of it ya know.

In New York, there's a saying for almost anything. For example: a New York conservative is a liberal who's been burglarized- twice. If that's the case, Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, a perennial supporter of gun control, may be half-way to that epiphany. Seems the seventy-three year old Breyer was robbed last week in his vacation home in the West Indies. According to a Supreme Court spokesperson, a man with a machete broke into the Breyer residence and confronted Breyer, his wife and guests. After making off with about $1,000 the intruder left. No one was hurt in the incident. The U.S. Marshals Service and the Supreme Court Police are "assisting local authorities with the investigation." So what will this personal violation do to Justice Breyer and his feelings on crime and justice. Personally, I hope it gets the heretofore close-minded liberal to consider the fact that self-defense might be a little more valuable than he's previously thought. Doug Ritter at Knife Rights disagrees. He's written that he expects Breyer to issue an anti-machete opinion. I don't want to make too-light of the situation, but I'm afraid he's probably right. Justice Breyer, like Justice Ruth Bader-Ginsburg (a mugging victim) is a bit close-minded when it comes to issues like the individual interpretation of the Second Amendment.

Lady Gaga stares down Blake Shelton & Miranda Lambert

I was taught it was rude to stare. That is one hateful, demented beech. Was this event just prior to her going out to Trick or Treat? -
Sure you can hunt with a 9mm, small game and such with no problem. And if you don't like venison, no worries, it will run off after you shoot it. (Don't use it for deer!!)

"Well, buddy boy, our traditional American freedoms suffered way more under Dubya than they will probably ever, under any subsequent liberal." You can't talk about subsequent Liberals other than Obama, but he has surely done a lot more damage to freedom than Bush ever did. The debt is about to bankrupt the whole country and we may soon see martial law. Clinton, and all the PRIOR Liberals are the ones who passed all of the unconstitutional gun control laws that Americans have been arrested and jailed for since. Don't know who Jim McGreevy was? Whoa, that's revealing. Google his name.

I believe the last time this country was nationally disgraced was when Bill Clinton was in the White House with Monica. Neither Bush, nor Palin has ever come close to that type of embarassment for our nation. One thing about the left, they aren't happy to just not like someone, they hate them! It's a psychosis. Because they don't really have a good reason for it.

Microstamping bullet casings

Rich people, and people with good jobs also commit crimes. The best way to stop crime is to insure swift and severe punishment for commiting one. Like a .45 caliber slug right between the eyes of a rapist, mugger or murderer. -
The woman's death should forever be seen as an example of how to destroy a charmed life by making bad choices. It wasn't completely about drugs either. She came to desire becoming one with a culture she saw as more righteous than the American society that praised her and made her wealthy. The propaganda she was fed by black society made her turn against everything that created her fame and fortune. It can't be denied she was villified and shunned by her own kind for living what they saw as a successful "white" life, made possible by entertaining and associating with whites. That guilt caused her to reject her success and turned her into a racist and drug abuser. A victim mentality is not healthy or conducive to a long and happy life. That should be the lessen people take from this woman's life.

Microstamping bullet casings
Grouse replied to Deerthug's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Doc, that's the point. It doesn't work. It has so many flaws, it can't be considered a crime fighting law. It is a gun banning law. All firearms manufacturers would look at the expense of complying with this nonsense and decide not to sell guns in NY State. They would have to, because the price of these guns, if they were to make them, would be twice what a regular gun costs, meaning they wouldn't sell any in NY State anyway. This stupidity is right up there with the "smart gun" scam of yesterday. Democrats hate guns and are always looking for crazy ways to stop their sale, possession and manufacture, while still saying they support the 2nd Amendment. What scares me is people actually believe them when they say it! -

Well, it looks like the Republicans are going to sell out the victims for political gain and Holder will be able to walk over the graves of the dead LEO's scott free. There is no Justice in America if this actually happens! http://www.westernjo...nd-white-house/ Place John Boehner among the most disgraceful and despicable traitors to the American public in our nation’s history.

What about lever action center fire rifles like a Marlin or Winchester in .44Mag or .357Mag? They hold 10 rounds or more. Are they illegal in NYC? -
The deer was taken in Illinois and the guy shot it on his own land. He said he had trail cam pics of the deer, knew it was out there, had seen it in the early gun season but couldn't get a good shot. He killed it on 12/1/2011 in the late deer season. Congratulations to him!

The trouble I found with the .243 for deer IMHO is, bullets that work well at long range, don't seem to work well at close range. And bullets that work well at close range, tend to punch through a deer without expanding much, or leaving a good blood trail, at long range. A light, small caliber bullet, moving at a high velocity, is being asked to do a lot when used for deer. On a broadside shot, putting it in the heart, lung area will do fine, at any range. But if it is a quartering away shot angle, or towards the shooter shot angle, especially at close range, the .243 may not provide the desired penetration, no matter what bullet you are using. I tried lots of different bullets, and many got expensive. After lots of experimenting, I found a 7mm-08 performs much better, with inexpensive loads, at all ranges. That's what I believe makes it a better round for deer hunting.
