after I sat on a plywood seat for 8-10 hours a day for 6 days, I would have spent twice that on a good cushion had I known......we resorted to wrapping pillows in camo t-shirts after the first few days.........bugs weren't a problem at all when I went, but I'd rather have a thermacell and not need it then to not have one and need one.........and make sure you have warm weather camo, it can be hot.
-
The sits can be long, when I went the seats were plywood, not very comfortable.......bring a very comfortable cushion to sit on.
-
you would think a local archery club would arrange to hold a meeting in the town to explain to the residents how successful controlling deer by hunting can be.......not to mention a lot cheaper than birth control. I'm sure they could get a biologist from DEC to make an appearance.
-
I'll take the time to look at each candidate and see what their stand is on ALL the topics that are important to me........I won't just cast a vote out of anger.
-
growalot, would you say the bucks are usually the last to enter the foodplots and usually hang back in the woods until last light or at least until does have been out in it awhile?
-
when I went, the outfitter told us that if you've never seen a bear in the wild before, they will all look big.......nothing suffers from ground shrinkage more than a bear. I wasn't personally successful, but the average was 150 lbs., my brothers was the largest at 195 dressed and it looked huge on the ground.
-
who are you hunting with? I went a bunch of years ago, best advice I can give is to bring a real comfortable cushion to sit on.
-
if it's all private land, I would guess the property owners hold the cards.........you would have to get the majority of the people to agree to hunting, especially if the houses are close together.........I would also think it would take 4-5 years to see any impact with the birth control plan.
-
yeah, preference points were required in my area for about 3 or 4 years, so a dmp every other year was about normal..........add antler restrictions into that mix and you can guess the rest............it's why I devote more time to bow and muzzleloader season and rifle is just out of tradition at this point.
-
if you log into the DECALS system it will tell you.
-
glad to see they finally fixed it, they've been misspelling it for years........
-
good point. what if we have anti-gun, anti-hunting politicians running against someone who voted for the Safe Act, but has been a friend to sportsmen? a little more research needs to be done on each candidate before you cast your vote.

best way to have your stuff last is to take care of it...........looks good. -
the youth hunt didn't get the green light until the last minute the first year...this year will be more of a gauge as to it's popularity.

what is causing this hair loss & skin problem in Aug?
jjb4900 replied to mac's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
is it a matter of them shedding the summer coat, or does the winter coat just grow in? -
like I said before, if this is the only reason you get your kid out into the hunting world, you've already lost them.
-
I would vote against him due to his vote on the Safe Act, that has more of an overall impact on all of us than his stance on crossbows...............while not a big fan of crossbows during archery, I'm fairly certain allowing them would have as much of a negative affect as the youth hunt will.
-
I hear more shots throughout the summer of people just target shooting......more so the day or two before gun opens.
-
I'm not saying I agree with any of his agendas or that I support him.......I certainly think the stance on on infringing on the second amendment is more important than any other topic..........I was just saying they are totally different issues.
-
I think, that just because someone voted for the Safe Act, doesn't mean they are against hunting, two totally different topics in my opinion.........and yes, I'll accept the beatings as they come.
-
I do agree that if that's what it takes to get you and you're kid involved in hunting, there's a much bigger problem.......my son was tagging along and freezing his ass of with me for a few years before the youth hunt opened up, deer and turkey alike. It was nice to get out there before the crowds and spend quality time with him while the woods were quiet.
-
I know there are many who argue that the youth hunt will be used by adults as a way to shoot a deer and have their kid tag it, but I'm sure that's no more of a problem then adults who shoot their deer the day before opening day, use a crossbow during archery season, shoot a deer over bait or any other illegal scenario you can imagine.........no matter what the season or implement used, there will always be illegal activity.
-
It is quite possible that he is a dedicated archer and that's what drives him to back no crossbows during archery season..........if that's the case, I respect him for what he is doing.
-
my first taste involved tagging along with my dad and uncles during deer season way before I was able to hunt, as did my son........nobody in my family were serious bowhunters way back then.
-
my son and I hunted it last year, all on public land........not only didn't we see any other youth's hunting, but we never ran into any bowhunters or small game hunters.
