Today 8/12/2013 DMP's are available... Did you get your area?

For 2013-14 all Bonus DMPs will be valid only for antlerless deer. Bonus DMPs that are used to take an antlerless deer may be replaced with another Bonus DMP. Bonus DMPs used to take an antlered deer will not be replaced. No fee will be charged for the Bonus DMP..............just reading that second to last sentence alone indicates to me that some bonus DMP's can be used for antlered deer, they just won't replace it. -

DMPs may be used only in the WMU for which they are issued and may be valid for antlerless deer only or deer of either sex, as indicated on the permit........."MAY be valid for antlerless deer or deer of either sex, as indicated on the permit" -

Bonus DMPs in WMUs (1C, 3S, 4J and 8C)Hunters who fill a DMP tag by harvesting an antlerless deer can apply for an additional (bonus) DMP to harvest another deer of either sex. Bonus DMPs that are used to take an antlerless deer may be replaced with another Bonus DMP........how's that? it looks like it says either sex to me, so much for people who give out bad info. -

I always get them after they become available as leftovers, but thanks for the clarification...good to know. -
if the log wasn't tore up, I highly doubt it was a bear.

I think you're 100% correct..that's why I never put an area that always has leftover tag as any of my choices........it's a waste of a potential preference point. -
the way it was explained to me is that Suffolk doesn't technically have a bowseason......they have a regular season that only allows archery gear as a legal implement, so any deer taken is actually taken during the regular season, not bowseason.
-
if it's for emergencies, I would think you'd like to check it a few times a month anyway to make sure it's working properly, so that should take care of the minimum use requirement.
-
The reg's say an archery license is needed to bowhunt during the archery season...........Suffolk's archery season is actually considered the "regular season", so I think all that is needed is the certificate, I always bought the tag just to avoid problems. Make a call and talk to someone at the region 1 HQ to be sure.
-
or the chance of it folding up on your hand.
-
you have to bring the head with tagged attached to either the check station in Ridge or DEC HQ in Stony Brook............you should always call before you go to make sure someone is available to issue the bonus tag...I may be wrong on this one, but pretty sure they are only issued if you take an antlerless deer.

I never put in for 1c as any of my 1st two choices.....you'll always get it and that prevents you from getting a preference point for any of the harder to get areas for the next year. I always wait until they give out the leftovers to pick up my 1c's. -
please do, it hasn't served a legitimate purpose since day one.
-
I killed a lot of deer on nuisance permits......never considered it hunting or bragged about what I killed. I was content on taking it for what it was.
-
was the log torn up at all? if a bear finds a log that's bug infested they will tear the bark up to get to them........I found a deer carcass that a bear had gotten to, all the grass around it was flattened out where the bear had laid down while eating it.
-
since you were at an archery shop, did you bring your bow and have one of the pro's check it out and give you advice on what you may or may not need to do to correct some of the issue's you were having?

the DECALS system never took me to the dmp selection page..........a phone call to DEC told me that due to the high traffic on the system today, this is not unusual. -
I was on a nuisance permit a few years back, the farmer and his family would shoot does and bucks alike and throw them in a ditch and bury them........was really no reason for me to ever pass on anything, at least if I shot something it wouldn't go to waste...........DEC always took the antlers off any bucks, we weren't allowed to keep them.
-
I'm pretty sure "booby traps" are a no no......do a search on them where people were killed or physically injured, and most of the time the person who set them has been charged criminally.

L.I. used to be Nov. 1st up until a few years ago.........I wish it was still like that, Oct. down here is still hot and tick infested, I don't find it enjoyable at all.
