1. I posted this on another site, but I wanted as much advise as possible. I just inherited some cash and I wanted some advice on a couple of things. As a reference, I currently shoot a Mathews Switchback XT set at 62 lbs. First off, if money was no object, then what bow that you have shot would you recommend. Although I am a Mathews shooter now, I am open to suggestions. Second, I want to know if the features of these new bows (speed, silence, etc.) would be noticed at the low end of the draw weight for the bow. So I guess what I am asking is would I get the best performance by maxing out a 50-60 lb. bow or go on the low side of a 60-70? Thanks for your input.
2. WOW...what a beauty! Hopefully you'll see in during shooting hours. Good luck.
3. This guy doesn't have very long tines, but a good spread and has extra "nubs" off of each base. The right beam looks like it might split into another tine, but I'm not sure how much more growing is left to do so. He was with two other bucks, one another smaller 8 and a 6 (no brow tines) that I saw last season. If you click on the pictures a bar show up after the last picture to scroll to the right. Also...ignore the date stamp...this was this past week.
4. Send me a PM and I can fill you in on a bunch of places near southern dutchess to hunt. I live in the town of beekman and have lived up here for 15 year after moving from westchester.
5. Vincent, The creek bed was a bit below where I put the camera, so I did angle it down. All I did was put a piece of a stick behind the top part of the camera to get the angle I wanted.
6. Welcome and thanks for serving! I live in southern Dutchess as well. Deer hunting here is about as different as it can be from desert spot and stalk. Send me a private message if you want any info on local public places to hunt.
7. Not a big buck , but I thought that it was a cool picture.
8. I set my camera up on a dried up creek with a lot of different tracks and it didn't disappoint. I got a doe with a fawn, a 6 pt. (8 pt. main frame without brow tines) a coyote and pups and a small bear. I will let the spot rest for a little while and re-set it for another week or two.
9. I'm in town of Beekman. Send me a PM if you want to get together and/or share hunting info with each other.
10. Welcome aboard. I live in southern Dutchess...what about you?
11. I've been a HS teacher for 18 years and about 5 years ago I had to break up a pretty bad fight. I just happened to be walking past the cafeteria and I heard screaming. I ran in and saw this one boy on top of another and just pounding him in the face. I did think twice, but I couldn't just stand by and watch. I tackled the boy on top and took a couple of blows to the head before I was able to get him wrapped up. After a hearing, the boy was suspended for the rest of the year and not allowed back in the school. Five years later, the bad a$$ kids in my school are still very respectful to me and give me a wide berth in the halls...I guess word gets around from year to year. I have to laugh at that, but I did what I thought was the right thing to do, even though I jeopardized my job to do so.
12. I shoot Beaman MFX Realtree arrows the past few years and have found them to be very consistant and tough. They don't make them anymore, but I picked us a dozen in Cabela's bargain basement and that should hold me for the next couple of years.
13. Plenty of turkeys in Putnam. Check these two sites for places to hunt: http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7844.html http://www.nyc.gov/html/dep/html/recreation/hunting_and_trapping.shtml I have been to many of them and most hold deer and turkeys. Get out there and scout them up and see which ones have what you are looking for. Be safe during the season.
14. In Pawling, I saw one walking on a rock wall about 50 yds. from me earlier in Nov. A buddy of mine hunting the same property saw a mom and two kits a few days later. The one I saw did everything it could not to walk on the crunchy leaves as it went through the woods. I first saw it walking across a rock wall and then I watched it meander through the woods walking on every log and rock that it could so it wouldn't have to walk through the leaves. It was awesome to watch.
15. Great pic. I got a partial picture of one a couple of years ago, but not like yours.
16. Great pics! That one buck has a thick neck on him.
17. I set a camera on a scrape I found on my way to one of my stands. Here is what showed up over the course of a week:
18. Here is an update on my issue. Someone from the state wrote to me and said that they have not had anyone else have this problem, but they said that if I mail my tags back to them, they will replace them for me....at no cost. It's good to see that some places still do the right thing by their customers.
19. No, they aren't turning black, the ink is coming off. I looked at them more carefully and it looks like the ink on the backs of the tags are rubbing what's printed on the front off. I have a call in to DEC to see if I can get replacements without having to pay for them because they are not lost, they are just not really readable. Probably a good money making scam by them by using crappy ink....
20. In August, I received my 2010-2011 lifetime resident sportsman license, along with my bowhunting, muzzleloading, fall/spring turkey and 2 DMP tags. I signed the backs and put them away in my folding plastic carrying case, as I have done in the past. Today I went to Fahnestock State park to get a bowhunting permit and when I pulled my license out it, along with all of my other tags, were very severely faded. They did not get wet or were exposed to sunlight. They were put in the carrying case and then in a zip lock bag and put in my console of my car so that it would be with me when I hunt. Is anyone else having this problem?
21. Here is a funky looking buck My buddy got on camera in southern NY.
22. Wow, great pictures of the bear and that is a really nice buck.
23. Just pulled my camera from a spot I have permission to hunt in northern westchester. The owner of the property said that he had been seeing a really big 10 in July, but these are the bucks that I got when I put my camera out last week. I actually had two cameras set out on the property, but the other one had its card on "lock", so it didn't record any pictures...what an idiot!!!. :-[ I'll let it rest for a little while and put them back out in Sept.
24. I'm a HS Math teacher in Northern Westchester. Lot's of liberals down there, but i can hold my own in a conversation about the benefits of hunting... Also, as a perk of the job, some of my students' parents have given me the opportunity to hunt some of their private properties in Westchester to help with their deer "problem". I have taken up the offers and have seen some really nice bucks, and have harvested some does.
25. If there is a particular topic you want to discuss/find info on, start a thread and see who responds....it seems that people on here are willing to share info.
