Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but it fits the description. A friend of mine has a couple of an older version that he uses occasionally. https://www.fishusa.com/product/HT-Enterprises-Magnetic-Polar-Pop-Up-Tip-Up

I was a rage fan for a while, but I never felt like I could get them razor sharp. Maybe it was me, don't know. I read a few reviews and ended up choosing G5 Striker's (100 g). Holy crap..they are SO sharp right out of the box. One actually sliced right into a finger as I applied light pressure putting it on my arrow! I am loking forward to seeing how they work this season...can't imagine any issues with a pass through with how sharp they are. Replaceable blades too.

I don't like to trample on this one property that I have had great success on over the past 5 years, but I put a couple of cams out for a couple of weeks on some well worn trails by the river. I got plenty of pics of does with fawns, a bachelor group of spike and fork horns, two basket 8 pointers (will pass on) and this one nice one. I really like how the main beams almost touch. I will probably never see him again, but if I do I am shooting!

I have a .300 WBY mag that I won at a friends of the NRA banquet about 10 years ago for sale. It is unfired and still in the box. Let me know if you are interested.

I do a lemon and artichoke pheasant breast that my family likes. It's a take on chicken piccatta, but with artichoke hearts dropped in towards the end. Dredge pheasant breast in seasoned flour, sautee' in olive oil and put aside. Toss in a little more olive oil or butter and a few tablespoons of flour and cook a bit. Deglaze pan with juice from 2-3 lemons and some chicken stock...the flour you dredged the breast in plus the extra makes a roux and the sauce will start to thicken. If more liquid is needed, I add more stock. Toss in some capers and artichoke hearts (canned or thawed frozen, not marinated) and heat through. Serve with some egg noodles or rice and a side veg and you are good. Enjoy!

Here are two links that will give you a lot of info for public areas north of NYC. It is in "region 3" and you are looking for Westchester, Putnam, Rockland and Orange countuies. Good luck! http://www.nyc.gov/html/dep/pdf/recreation/open_rec_areas.pdf http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/8289.html

Saw this guy pushing a doe behind my house yesterday. Pulled my card from my cam back there and got a few good pics of him. Season is over, so I hope he makes it through until next year. Time stamp is ahead an hour because I didn't move it back in Oct.

My Accura is my "go to" gun during the gun season. I find that it is more accurate than my slug gun and have taken many deer with it. I am also a bow hunter, so I am used to the "one shot" deal. I have never needed a second.

2016 HuntingNY Gun Harvest thread
Birdhunter replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
Southern Dutchess 8 pt. shot out of the same stand I have connected with for the past three gun openers. A few years ago I bow hunted the stand quite a bit and never saw anything until the gun opener. I decided to leave it alone last year for bow and shot a nice 8 pt. I did the same this year and scored again this morning. Saw a single doe 80 yds. off about 7:00 and finally got a glimpse of him a few minutes later. 20 minutes later she is within 50 yds. and when I got a clear shot at him I took it. After the smoke cleared (shooting a CVA muzz), I saw him stop running and fall down about 60 yds. off. I watched him through the binos for the 20 minutes leading up to the shot and I swear the right brow tine was there, but when I got to him I could tell that it broke off recently. Oh well, adds to the character. Good luck to everyone for the rest of the season! By the way...I apologize for that stick thats right in front, but I was self filming and I didn't see it.- 47 replies

I use a large washer with a field tip. When I shoot it from my stand, the arrow just flips over and doesn't bury.

Last night. Venison shanks braised in red wine and beef stock. Besides the normal aromatics that you start with (celery, onion and carrots) I tossed in some cherry tomatoes that I froze from the garden and a package of mixed mushrooms (baby bella, oyster and shiitaki) about half way through. I use a ceramic pot in the oven to cook it in, but a crock pot would obviously work too. Don't toss those shanks...after 4 hours the meat is so tender. served with garlic broccoli and mashed potatoes...mmm!

I hung my stuff up after this morning's hunt too. I had a doe with a yearling come into the Barberry to browse at 75 yds. She was not looking at me, but I swear the mature doe heard me take my hands out of my pocket from that distance. She stared right at me for 10 minutes before moving away and out of sight. She stopped 3 motre times and looked right back at me. I think she has had a lot of experience with other hunters and was going to be nearly impossible to get a shot at. Maybe next year old lady...

Hunted my "lucky" stand this morning and I made 75 yd. shot with the muzzleloader on this buck. I have shot 3 bucks of similar quality over the past 4 years from this stand. I know that there are bigger ones shot elsewhere in the state, but this is a good one for this area. I hunt the property a lot during bow season and have had chances at some smaller bucks, but have passed on them. I missed my chance at a smaller 8 pt. last Sunday at 20 yds.

Over...nothing is over!...do you remember when... (Animal House movie reference) I, too, love the bow season. I will pick up the gun (muzzleloader) for a couple of spots during the regular and late season I hunt, but others are still bow only because I don't have more than a 30 yd. shot or it is too close to houses to shoot a gun as opposed to bow. I am fortunate to be able to hunt in Westchester County where it is bow only. Their season runs until December 31, so I finish my season up down there. Tough hunting with the bow when it is in the teens, but very rewarding that I'm still getting it done with the bow.

I agree...it is a fallfish. We have them and regular creek chubs in most of the streams/creeks around Dutchess county. Before you had to get certified bait, I would catch 3-4 dozen of a mix of them in October, put in a big cooler with air, and have great tiger musky and pike bait for the ice season.

Led Zep, Aerosmith, Rolling Stones..all of the mid to late 70's version. Out of the box thinking...Beethoven. I am not a classical music nut, but he really pushed the envelope for his time. it would be amazing to be sitting in a theater for one of his symphonies.

I do the same thing for Brodie! He will barge into whatever whike out hunting, but he puts on the brakes when I open the door and he sees snow! He held it all day until I used the snowblower to create a path around the house for him....he was a happy boy!

Can still see bucks cruising through doe areas looking for one last chance, but I find that most are back on the search for food. I like to go back to where the oaks were dropping acorns in October and I usually see deer there again in December. In my opinion, the mature does in pressured areas are just about the hardest thing to hunt with the bow during the late season....they are so wary from the season and are on high alert all of the time. Good luck out there.

Welcome from a fellow Dutchess county member. I, too live and hunt in southern dutchess..Poughquag, Pawling, Stormville. Good site for seeing what's going on and checking in with your own reports. Sharing, without bragging, is the best part, in my opinion. Padding your post count with meaningless comments does not make you a more valuable member of this site. Again..welcome aboard!

Thanks guys. I didn't weigh him, but when I brought him to my local butcher he said, " I thought you shot a deer, not a horse" He said it would probably be the heaviest one he gets in for the year. I still have room in the freezer, so I will be back out this weekend.

I have hunted this property in Stormville pretty hard during the bow season and passed on 5 different small bucks. I was looking for a mature doe to shoot or a bigger buck, but I never go the opportunity on either. Out of nowhere, this guy came in right on a doe and it was an easy shot with the muzzleloader at 50 yds. I have never seen this buck in person or on camera, but he seems to be related to a similar one I shot two years ago. They both have the same small brow tines and both had big bodies. I shot this one no more than 50 yds. from the other one. I guess that is a good spot to leave that stand!

I was in one of my local spots this Sunday afternoon. I park in my friends driveway, walk through his back yard and cross a stream to where I hunt. I can hear cars driving in and out, kids playing in the yards, leaf blowers, lawnmowers, etc. very clearly. I got in my stand at 2:00 and not 5 minutes later a couple of does are headed my way, but not in bow range. They were in the area for an hour and never even looked at the guy with the leaf blower that was 150 yds. away on the other side of the stream. Now if that guy stopped blowing and crossed the stream, they would perk right up and be gone. They will tolerate a certain amount of human intrusion, but once you cross over to "their" side, they are still very wary.
