  1. I had an unfortunate experience with a failure to ignite problem once. I used way too much oil and placed rifle back in gun safe breach down. I presume that little oriface clogged with oil. from then on after a wash, compressor the oriface and use rem-oil, I Place the rifle in the gun safe muzzle down to prevent an accumulation in the breach. I was able to reload a 209 primer and discharge the rifle in the direction of a deer. I was so miffed by the misfire I missed.
  2. While in my early twenties, a friend snapped a pic of me doing the same thing. replace stump with commode though.
  3. I know, I really cringe when I started submerging. It goes against everything my father told me.

    Anise Oil

What was most annoying was a trail to Mitchell Ponds last year. Every 100 tards or so was someones 'bait pile' of candy corns and grease, apple puree, honey drizzle. I could hardly imagine any useful baiting in this manner due to infrequent placement and long unorganized spread of bear goodies. In the states that allow baiting, they replenish established sites over weeks to build up a routine with the bear population. I quess it is not worth the legal trouble of baiting, and especially not worth it if you do it half way. We can use 1.5oz of scent.
  5. Sounds like a great place for a campfire tonight.
  6. Soap and water, friction. Air compressor for primer nipple. Switch to Blackhorn 209
  7. For the Blackhorn 209 guys. Same for me BTW. Freq asked questions from their web page. 5. Can I weigh my charges? Yes. If you prefer to weigh charges, you can convert the volume load recommendations into weighed grains by multiplying the volume load by 0.7. Example: 100 units by volume x 0.7 = 70 grains by weight. 110 volume charge x 0.7 = 77 grains by weight. I prefer volume measurement. I can measure milliliters anywhere, anytime. http://www.curtrich....ersionSheet.htm
  8. Yep, You will need last year's tag until October 1. One question we should ask though. Opening bow for DEER is Sept 27 in the Northern region, Can we use last year's tags. I am heading up Sept 28 for Bear only with rifle. Fun Times..
  9. I believe beaver castor can be stored in 1.5oz containers. You then get some buddies to walk by your site and dispense their scents on your sight. If you get 85 of your buddies X 1.5 ounces, a nice 1 gallon mess of scent could be applied. The trouble is getting one of them to help you drag the beast. Moose River Plains. I love it. We have hunted at the end of the road, Indian lake (the other one near muskrat), otter brook site a few times, middle moose where trailhead to beaver lake is, and mitchell ponds access (the second one). My dad had a shot at two there. I have never seen one but can step in the piles though. I saw a Moose near Otter brook once. Drank from the spring at mile 6. Fun place. Very secluded. I took a girlfriend back there years ago for camping and her eyes kept getting bigger, and bigger. She started to unlock the door, until she saw another secluded car camper.
  10. Well, I am from Broome County, NY and have hunted with my father and borther for years. We typically hunt bear every fall near Inlet, NY. I moved to OHIO by way of: Alaska, Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Oregon over a 4 year period. in 2003 I settled in Ohio where I hunt with a crossbow and muzzleloader. I return to NY for the bear trip and would like to extend my deer season by travelling to western NY as Ohio has a very short deer season, unless you bow hunt, of course. ASP and surrounding areas interest me. Luckily, I purchased a lifetime sportsman before leaving the state. Big money saver..
  11. Just finished tuning up my remington 700 with a wood stock and some better optics. man, prices of optics have increased quite a bit.
  12. Well, I an from broome County, NY and purchased a lifetime hunting license before moving to Ohio. I do return to NY every fall for an annual 'Bear Hunt' in the Adirondacks, near Inlet. I hunt Ohio but find they have an extremely short gun season. I hunt muzzleloader in NY and Ohiovand would love to hunt with my remington 700 in 30-06 more. (cannot in Ohio) I camped ASP this past summer and found interest outside the park at the South Valley State Forest. I am interested in the area this year and would be spending 1 -2 weekends hunting. I also spend a little time on Oak Orchard Creek with my Young ones. Any help with the nuances of the region and potential overnight accomodations or camp spots would be greatfully appreciated.
