    Good lesson. She was only 13yds crossing trail. Shot her while slightly quartering away walking and shot landed several inches back of what I expected. Still crashed in 50-70yds but won’t do that again. Bigger than I thought. Done till next sat.

    Honestly Rob, I don’t think that’s enough time. I shot a doe my first season in a pm hunt. Found pieces of intestine while tracking (rage). She was hurting. Let her sit overnight and busted her out of bed the next morning at 8am. Never found her even with deer search. I would want to be sure he is dead before taking up any trail. Just my experience.

    Dogs are good at tracking gut shot deer. You might check with deer search and let him expire in first bed. I think handlers hate when we muck up track. Maybe tomorrow morning.

    You will see him again. I usually misjudge short no long but I think fields make deer appear farther way.
