  1. hey guys just curious. How much does a full body mount of say a 300lb bear usually cost to get mounted?
  2. I tried slinging some arrows at 50 yards last night and guess what! I lost some arrows! lol why the hell would you even try taking a shot at 50 yards with a bow? You really want to take a chance of injuring that animal and causing extreme amounts of pain and a slow death? If your bow hunting its about getting close that's what makes it so difficult. There is just too much that can go wrong at 50 yards with an arrow. Could I make the shot yea im sure I could but I would never let one fly without 100% knowing im gonna hit that animal. If I miss I want to be like WHAT THE HELL!!! Freakin out in my tree stand because I knew my form was in check as well as my equipment and I just missed due to some good ole buck fever! Not omg I hit em in the foot at 60 yards...oh well....
  3. I have fired off some grim reapers before. They are ok I prefer the rage better. I found they dropped to easily and they were always coming undone
  4. I got to say that there is definitely something to hunting alone as well. I love my wife and with a child on the way I know my time in the woods in the future may be limited. Or it may not! I rarely make overnight trips it just requires more driving to get home but she has been amazing with letting me go whenever I want. There is definitely something to hunting alone anyhow. I enjoy the time I get out in the woods. I brought some non hunting friends on some trips before and while it was fun it wasn't the same! When I go into the woods. THOSE ARE MY WOODS! ITS MY TIME. Back home its her time but when I step out of that truck and enter the woods its MY TIME! I love her to death but sometimes a man needs to think, run around, be free, naked, and alone in the woods lol jk no but seriously it reminds me of that movie goonies when they are in the water well and I friggin quote Mikey: "Don't you realize? The next time you see sky, it'll be over another town. The next time you take a test, it'll be in some other school. Our parents, they want the best of stuff for us. But right now, they got to do what's right for them. Because it's their time. Their time! Up there! Down here, it's our time. It's our time down here. That's all over the second we ride up Troy's bucket" So enjoy your time in the woods. If you can get the misses to come along then great! If not remember you are there for you. You work hard enough. Take time to smell the bear poo and enjoy some private time alone with your thoughts and the adventure of the great outdoors!
  5. I had the Barnett ghost 400 for a while. Cool bow but when they got rid of the law the next year I sold it and took a nice hit on it too. Kinda wish I didn't sell it!
  6. lol yea walking through a corn field to track a bear would def have me shook up lol so cool I love the intestine trail I had something similar happen with a buck I shot last year it was quartering away and the same thing happened
  7. hey man congrats on the bear! Wonderful video too you guys did a great job! Had a lot of fun watching it def a total success!
  8. yea I hear ya it was early bow season so the brush was thick as hell and I knew I could make out the deer but I didn't have an ETHICAL shot! Next time I will have to just move slower take my time and pay attention more. I have passed up more deer then I will ever shoot and that's fine by me. If it were easy it wouldn't be cool.
  9. yea I think this is a very common problem lol. I continue to hear the negative comments on hunting and I just love throwing it back at em as far as referring to the next time they eat a steak to think about putting a bolt gun up to its head and driving a piece of steel through its brains. Or loading a bunch of pigs into a pen and crushing them to death! These animals sit in there own shit there entire lives with a hole cut into their stomachs to monitor the digestion of an unnatural and nutrition less food source like corn. I usually explain the fact that these animals got the chance to live naturally enjoying a lifetime in the woods and a quick death due to an ethical shot. As far as the actual hunting aspect goes most people were not raised in a country back round UNFORTUNATLY. I wish that's how I was raised but it truly wasn't. I discovered a love for this sport all on my own. Even my father snarls at me every time I bring up hunting because he used to hunt and my mother hated it so he pretends he never did. I brought it up one time and he gave me the finger lol I wish my wife would get into it. She has helped me track down a deer I shot and also helped me dragg it out of the woods as well. As far as hunting goes though most people wouldn't think twice about spending the entire day sitting in a tree lol Especially on long island where we have a massive overpopulation problem however people still stick to their weak minded cute cuddly side that this is a world where killing doesn't happen and the garden nomes will just tell the deer to go away. I love watching them sink there teeth into a big bloody piece of steak chewing and macerating the meat between there teeth enjoying the taste of animal fat as it slides around inside their mouth. Yet if you were to put a bolt gun in there hands and introduce them to the steak would they eat it after drilling a hole through their forehead? In reality people would be quicker to kill each other for food in a time of crisis then to ever learn how to hunt. The only way I could imagine bringing my wife out for a hunt is if there is another hunter with a wife and kids and we rent a cabin where the men go out for a hunt while the women stay at home together playing with the kids. It must be cool to have a chick that's into it. Im sure if your rich as hell and can afford to go on trips around the world with guided hunts where you both get to sit in a ground blind while animals are drawn to a watering hole then cool. However in the real world hunting is hard work. Most people are lazy by nature especially with all the new technology to play with. Hard work for something you aren't obsessed with is hard to find people that are willing to do.
  10. lol yea def busted im pretty sure he was laughing at me as he ran off lol
  11. I remember I got my dmp tag sent in the mail. I had a big bodied doe dead to rights and I couldn't take the shot because I didn't have the tag. I was so bummed out and when I got home I had a letter from the dec with the dmp tag for that doe lololol something died in me that day lol
  12. as far as I have heard you can use a rifle for early bear. Could be wrong about that im going off another post I read so its a good question. Dude I cant stop thinking about the three huge piles of bear shit we had our stand up at. That spot was so perfect we def gotta get the bows back out there this year. They have a pretty cool indoor 3d target center out east I wanna go check out as well maybe make a day of it and bring the ladies let me know!
  13. totally agree with a sportsman. It took me 3 years to get my first deer and it wasn't much to look at it regards to size! Tasted great though! Its hard work especially if you are going to be hunting public land. Get yourself a good pair of binos and use em! If you don't plan on using a tree stand that's fine. I go back and forth however start to find state parks that are close. Then find one that you scout and spot deer at. Get to know the land so you can get in to a "SWEET SPOT" or high traffic area in pitch black with only a head lamp if that. Move very slow and remember if your having a bad day and haven't seen a deer that doesn't mean jack!!!!! They are an amazing animal and I don't understand the voodoo of the woods as to how you can cover so much ground and then as soon as the sun goes down they just APPEAR! Like a grey ghost they move almost without sound as they glide through the forest. Practice shooting and then go practice some more. Remember to go slow! The day you jump a deer is cool however the day you spot one bedded down before it sees you is even better. Stick to the basics with products such as a range finder, binos, scent block etc. You really want to try and focus on enhancing YOUR abilities more so then worrying all the time about theirs. Stalk with the wind to your face is a must. Using binos enhances your sight to that of an eagle so it boosts a natural ability. Learning your firearm is a must when it comes to making an ethical shot. Most of all you just gotta get your butt in the woods. After work, on the weekends. Stay organized so when it comes time to make a trip you aren't worried about where all your gear is at. Permethrin your hunting clothes to keep the ticks off its the only stuff that works. Clean your supplies and always bring more then enough water. You can always use a bottle to pee in to mask your scent in the woods. Hand held gps helps a ton however you are going to want to learn how to use a compass. I keep three of em on me at all times. Most of all have fun! That's what its all about. Your getting ready to experience something you have never experienced before and the rush and so called "buck fever" is indescribable! Good luck out there!
  14. so cool. I would love to get a bear I just cant seem to bring myself up into the woods with a rifle this early. If I see a big buck that's gonna kill me that I cant take a shot lol. I hope I get one this year during rifle.
  15. interesting do you guys find it annoying to have to dial down the yardage as the deer comes in or do you just range find different trees to make a mental note as they move through your shooting range?
  16. hey guys I was bow hunting last year when I jumped a group of deer and the dominant mature buck wheezed like hell at me! I tried a grunt call which stopped him for a second. He wheezed back and then chased the does back up the mountain. My question is should I have responded with a wheeze or a grunt/doe bleet? I had some thick brush between me and the deer so I didn't take the shot because I didn't want to take a chance of wounding this animal. It was truly an amazing experience to hear a wheeze that close! Very cool and startling sound to hear when your out in the woods. So what would you have done to try and stop that buck!?
  17. we gotta try and find a good spot to get a black bear in the early season!
  18. yea I have come across a lot of scat at sterling. Some big piles too! The only problem is they aren't taking part in the early season bear hunt! Weird as hell I don't understand why.
