Been in the stand since 645. Had a 6 point walk by but weaved I in and of every possible tree. No clean shot. He walked down the ridge from me saw a doe and he paid no attention to her. 930 he went off onto posted land and into the thickets. Now I have the north east happy feet (squirrels) all around me.

Hahah. Those deer always outsmart me! I don't know if I like school or if I like spending more and more money.
-
Live from my classroom! Yippie! I wish I was in the woods instead of going to class. Upside after today I have my 2nd masters degree!

Did it make the B&C? That is a non typical deer. Congrats on the harvest. ahaha.

I leave my ladder stands out, but what we do is remove the bottom 2 pieces of the ladder to ensure that no one comes and tries to steal it. We do this because in the past year we have had 3 ladder stands stolen. So now like I said we take the bottom 2 pieces off and leave the seat part attached to the tree. Then before the season, i mean months before we will go back out, change the straps, wd 40 the joints, touch up the paint if needed, change the para-cords hang back up our bow hangers and pack hangers. Then every 2-3 weeks we will re check the stands for further maintenance if it is needed. But if the stand needs to be replaced, well then we will replace the stand.

The best thing I do now, is I walk the ridge of a mountain slowly in hopes to kick up something. By slowly i mean i am taking like a max of 10 steps and am looking a full 360 and standing in spots for 5-10 min. If that does not work, or if I want to sit cause my knee is killing me ill sit on the ridge for an hr and throw a few bleat calls out to see if anything moves. As for scents right now, I have not used any since the week before thanksgiving. My brother has been using tinks 69 with a few bleat calls and it has brought in a 4 point on Black Friday. What are you thinking of using?

Very nice bear! Congrats. Where abouts did you get him?

I have to say during bow I saw a total of 15 deer. None that seemed to be the size I was looking for. But rifle I've only seen 3! 2 big bucks a 10 pt which I shot at but missed by shooting right over his back. A doe that was way to small. Then the 8 pt I shot on thanks giving! I have to say this year has been a weird season with seeing deer! I've still hunted, pushed and sat in a tree. But I also am not seeing the deer I have seen in the past. I have to say in part it has to do with the unseasonable weather we have had in the southern zone combined with the amount of food that has been available for the deer this year. I am just not impressed with this seasons deer activity! Where are you hunting dan?
-
Congrats on a great deer! Sounds like you were in the deer honey hole! Great story. Also that doe seems to be a pretty good size one. Congrats to that hunter as well!
-
Congrats Growalot! I carry a very similar gut bag. Mine has tags, permanent marker (thin), gloves, knife and zip ties. Best thing I ever did was combine them together so as I don't need to search the pack for everything and waste time!

The buck I took on thanksgiving was all rutted up! His tarsal glands were dyed a black color and stuck up the place! His neck was swollen and his antlers had fresh bark all over the tines. I keep telling my bother to get out there because he is the only one left with a buck tag, but his job has him running on fumes when he's out, but when he is not out he's passed out on the couch. The rut report also from field and stream says we are still in the peak rut today. So get out there boys and bag a bruiser!

@ deerduck: we actually did get the milk. We passed a gas station on the way home. They were just about to lock up and close the doors before I showed up. I pleaded and told the clerk "my mother would smack me if I didn't come home with milk" the convince store clerk laughed hysterically at me and let me in. So all in all a great day!

he will soon have a wall buddy! my pop has 2 bucks that are positioned around him cause he has the biggest rack. That mount of the deer is the second biggest we have taken in a while. my pop harvested a 200# 7pt, 8 years ago about 1000 yrds from where I have a stand and recently took both bucks. I appreciate all the congrats that I have received, I hope your seasons are going as good or better then the one I am having.

So there is the guys name. I did not feel it was appropriate to put it up on my behalf but the story is true. But there was another larger bear taken in PA. http://bearingarms.com/pennsylvania-hunter-bags-monster-772-pound-black-bear/ here is the story to a 772# black bear. I do not know about anyone else but, if i saw any of these bears, I would be looking for a place to hide and a new pair of boxers to get into!

This is the buck that I harvested 2 years ago off the same ridge on "Black Friday". He weighed in at 168 and 9 countable points. This was my first mounted buck and was done by Gatto's in Middletown. It took a little over a year, but the way this mount looks in person, it was well worth the wait. I hope this new one will look just as good!
-
We weighed him when we got home last night he came in at 135.5#. I took a deer 2 yrs ago almost the same spot. That deer weighed 168. I have him mounted. The taxidermist said roughly a year wait for a finished product. Soo as soon as I get it back you guys will see.
-
It was my Remington 30-06. I was surprised he ran at all with him being at the distance he was with in. But it's all done and said with now, he's at the taxidermist and the straps are getting eaten for dinner tonight!!
-
@ BIZ: I recently had ACL and miniscus replacement surgery from playing college football, and my knees were stiff and I was in the most pain i felt in a long time. So it took me a little while to get up and loosen up the knee. I debated not even going it was that bad. But, I am sure glad I did go! but from slipping on the rocky ridges I did a couple falls and twists that I know my knee will not like in the morning!
-
I will post the pics as soon as the mount is done. The taxidermist I use in 3m is ghattos in middletown. He has done 4 mounts for us and is currently working on a European mount on an 8 pt buck that my pop took during bow season in my stand. I told him i had school project with a group meeting i needed to monitor for school and sure enough he harvested this thick beam 8pt that hangs by my stand everyday. I will post those pics of that buck as soon as i get him back as well. From what i saw on this buck, the one i got today, his tarsal glads were black, so i smelled it and he is still in the rut looking for a doe to breed. So in my opinion the bucks are still on the move, we just need to get out there and put the work in! Good luck to you guys for the remainder of the season!

Got it done today guys and gals! Bagged an 8pt!!!! I walked into the woods at 730am. I went in this morning hoping to fill a dmp tag, but instead this guy showed up. As i walked into the spot where I saw 2 giants during bow season, i decided to take a gamble and go in to the exact location, but upon entering the location, a guy was in a tree stand 10 yrds off to my right so i backed out. I said under my breath a bunch of choice words that were inappropriate and not like myself. So I waved and walked away. Upon leaving the first spot, I radioed my pop and told him i was going to go to the top of the mountain where he harvested a 4 pt about 1 week ago from today. He said okay, be safe and good luck since it was a little slippery due to the snow fall. So as i got to the top, i saw tracks and rubs everywhere and said this is going to be a good spot and decided to sit on a COLD AS HELL rock and text my dad i am in a prime spot and will walk down to him at 10 to get him. The wind today was whipping around like no other and at the same point i said to myself today is too windy and i would not see anything. So after 30 min of sitting my mom texted me to get milk on the way home, and asked if i see anything. So being a good son i said sure, and that it was super windy and was not expecting to see anything today. After 2 min of sending the message this guy ran the ridge right to me, ending up to be 30 yrds from me and came to a full stop. Him and i ended up having a staring contest for what seemed to be forever! so i slowly grabbed my 06 and put the cross hairs on his shoulder, I squeezed softly and boom he buckled and ran 100 yrds to my left up on another ridge. under my breath i said dang did i miss? so i waited 5 min and walked to where i shot him, immediately i see a blood trail! i said hell yes thank the good lord he allowed me to harvest a great animal and now its time to put in the work. As i followed the blood trail i got with in 20 yrs and saw he was laying down. So to be safe i put another round in just in case. As I took anther step he jumped up and ran 5 yrds and stopped, that is where i took the safety off and put another round right through his lungs. He then ran another 100 yrs to the base of the mountain. I radioed my pop and told him i shot a buck and its at the base. He said he would be right over with my brother to help me drag the big boy and get him out. after gutting him and dragging him out of the woods it was 1pm! we all looked at eachother and realized crap, we need to get home and still get milk for our mom. Today was a successful hunt, and we were all excited to get the big boy home and get ready for the big feast! As for tomorrow we wont be going out cause we have to process him and get him to the taxidermist! good luck everyone! they big boys are still on the run!

Very classy PREDATE. @ NFA-ADK- i agree with you. Something does not seem right and would like it to believe it is a real harvest and actually weighed that amount but I am only going on what she had to say. Regarless if the animal did not weigh in at that, that animal is amazing in size.

I am trying to get more pics. I texted her at 7pm and she has not responded. like i said i know the guys name, but i do not feel it would be respectful for me to disclose this information. I wish I could just say his name but I do not feel like its appropriate for me to do so.
-
I meant to type Bethel in the first post but my phone did not recognize it and put bethe. I know the pic doesn't do this animal any justice, as for its weight I am only going on what she has sent me. As for this pic it is the only one she has sent me. I have asked for others to make it more reliable but she has not sent me any.

Hey guys sorry for the delay, I have been putting a lot of time in to the woods in hopes of getting a deer this year. But on to the subject matter about the bear I have received a little more info about the bear. as I said it was taken in Bethel NY. The bear was weighed at 604#s. It was taken by a local taxidermist. The quad is a king rancher. I know the guys name who shot it and it was not my boss's husband. She explained it a little weird but he was in the party that helped put it on the quad and transfer it to the back of the mans truck. I am not going to give the shooters name because I do not feel it is my duty to do so. Sorry.
