you are right on the breeder bucks as they are worth much more alive breeding. Now you say more bucks for a better chance for success! Why is it hunters drop down 3-5 grand every year to outfitters in states like Iowa and Ohio? That is free range and that is for a better chance at success.

Permit from Dept of Ag, No special land requirements. Google Ny state special licences and read about it

If deer are in a preserve they are not going to have their antlers cut to prevent anything. They are there to be hunted. A 2000 acre ranch could have just as many 150 inch bucks as 2000 no fence acres. It all depends how many the person wanted in there. The fact still stands that most hunters would fail taking a single buck out of a 2000 acre ranch and that is as fair chase as it needs to be. Yes he is inside a fence but if people cant get him out of there it sounds to me he has a better(fair)chance of living then the hunter has of getting him out of there. Thats with a gun. Put a bow in your hand and that buck will most likely die of old age before the average hunter drags his ass out of there.

And please do tell where you get your info from? I can show you for a fact just where deer were bought from deer owners back around 1922-1930 in Ohio and i can show you the number 2 non typical record buck that scored 3282/8 back in 1940.in that state. Can you show some records from that state, taken before these dates?
-
What makes you think i have not already done that. Cant wait till all states are on the same playing field. Will make rules much easier for all to understand!
-
LOL..No Doubt. They would never give the go ahead but there is also nothing they can do about a farm mishap. I mean, they would probably feel sorry for me for the value of the animals i lost....
-
Would be more interesting to do. Many of the top record book states are also the top deer farming states. One must wonder how many escapes or let go deer run the woods of those states. I would be willing to bite the bullet and let a half dozen or so sneak out the gate to improve our area. Think i could get the Ok? lol

If they stopped all Buck hunting.

Easy now...Your starting to get close to the reason of the post. Its funny how some people forget what they write on other threads and then bury themselves on another. I was going to press the point on a couple but why bother. it seems as though you caught on. Thats good enough i guess.... -
I think thats just it...A Concept..Its a feel good reason for some to justify that they are trying to make their land the best place to kill a trophy buck. They throw in some words here and there to cover their butt's but when it comes down to it they are still trying to hold and kill a trophy buck.

Disturbing article in NY Outdoor News
Four Season Whitetail's replied to jjb4900's topic in Deer Hunting
There was no outcry from people for using someone else tag because its second nature to many and so many people now do it that its no big deal. I do not believe some laws are for the better and those laws are the ones i push, just as all of you. Just because i smoke with my left had makes me a crook here but not a crook in other states. The dad letting him shoot i have no problem with but it would have had my tag on it and it would have only been known by a very tight nit group of people. -
No i believe it would have to help some. To a point. Doing it only one time..Not so much but over time yes i believe it would. The land would still only carry so many but they would be the biggest, healthiest deer that survived. But a one time deal would not do a whole lot of improvement. Now take the offspring from that breeding pair and breed them with a good buck and then you would have a start of a good thing.
-
It would be more than fair chase with most hunters...There is some good info there but i dont agree with the 115 grand to improve 1 inch of bone. I did not read the whole deal but i can tell you that if i were to release a few years worth of blood around here i could make many inches of improvement to the local herd. Does would be home bodies and bucks would disperse but they would still grow to be much bigger.
-
Cant believe i missed this but rest easy Doc. I wont hold you agreeing with me on something against you. lol 2000 acres is huge and i know i would have a heck of a time taking a single deer off of it, if i even could. 90% of hunters cant take a deer in months of hunting let alone them taking a single animal. I wish i had a big fenced in area because i would have open free hunts for a few of the nay sayers and watch some crow get ate as they pull out of the driveway...With an empty pickup truck..

If they stopped all Buck hunting.

Well finally a very well put together post. And for many hunters the same holds true for trophy deer. Some have it and some dont but to kill anything less than a true mature deer regardless of headgear is just to easy to do for some. Hence 10% of the hunters kill 90% of the deer. Land and the hunter himself is the factor. If i didnt have the land. I would go where i could find good hunting land. Did it for years and still do it to this day. -

So you went meatless/deerless because you only had 2 year old bucks and does come by? -
If they stopped all Buck hunting.
Four Season Whitetail's replied to Four Season Whitetail's's topic in Deer Hunting
Yes me also...But not sure if for the same reason. If DEC watches this page and see's that so many people do not need bucks in their hunting a law or two may be added. Then again...Maybe i work for the DEC.......... -
If they stopped all Buck hunting.
Four Season Whitetail's replied to Four Season Whitetail's's topic in Deer Hunting
Maybe with age comes change. I just no longer find it exciting unless i can find a nice big mature buck or two and take him on one on one until harvest or bust. That is hunting to me. Shooting a brown deer just does not cut it and shooting a deer that is not mature is out. I believe hunting areas also have a huge impact on peoples thoughts on hunting. When you have great hunting land with piles of deer on that land only the biggest smartest beast on that land works for me. If you can shoot a deer every time you walk in the woods it may change some thoughts. -

I myself would find something else to do in the wild. As far as deer hunting i would just be a bow hunter..pretty much there now..and 2 tags would be filled first couple days of season. Only need 2 for the freezer. I would spend more time duck hunting and fall Walleye fishing. -
Would you continue to hunt at the same level and desire? What would hunting mean to you?
-
Yup everybody has an opinion but i just find it funny how some can have an opinion of something they have no experience doing. Thats All.
-
No? Why do people go to Ohio,Kansas, and every other big buck area and pay an outfitter 3-5 grand to kill a buck that big. State land has nothing to do with this in general.

Ifs its the cake walk you say it is then there should be no need of snow. He cant get out remember. You should be able to walk in there, find him and drop his ass.
