  1. You do realize that many of the farmers. land owner or people that lease land do that so they have big bucks and good hunting. You say doe tags and access..and i agree on both..but the places that are locked down are down for a reason. Farms that want the deer gone are now open. Farms that see $ by leasing are doing that and land owners do their thing. I dont believe anything will change in Ny as far as land and DEC realizes that. I mean really, most guys that lease good farms of that buy their own land do so for a reason and most reasons are for bigger whitetail bucks. I m sure there are a few that think of other motives but if a poll was done i believe the bigger buck clan would prevail. People dont pay big time leases to have state land kind of hunting.
  2. Yup and like 10% of the hunters that harvest all the deer. Some guys could have a pocket full of tags and 6 months and still not get it done. When they get pressured that long even the ones on land that can get hunted, they go underground. The others go on off limits property. Split season would be like giving us 3 or 4 "Opening Days" the deer would calm back down some and the games can continue.
  3. See i am not sure this is correct. If 1 doe was shot in place of the yearling buck. Shot by the desperate hunter on Dec 1st because he has that tag and his holding out for a big buck that did not pan out,,after already shooting a yearling in early season.would help the doe take in those areas. So really in some areas a 1 buck rule would make some tag more does if they want meat.
  4. How true is this... The Editor Steve Piatt likes to put his spin on the opinion section even when he prints words on things that have been proven not to be true. Letters to the editor only get put up if they dont contradict his views or they dont prove him wrong. Anyways i must have missed this poll. A couple of the numbers would have changed a bit i guess.
  5. The day or two after a heavy snow is one of the best times to take a deer. Its not real fair to them and it sucks for us to have to trudge through all that snow but in an area that has deer they are very easy to take after a heavy snow.
  6. Yup 12 inches is like an overnight dusting up here and other places the world stops. lol
  7. I know everybody preaches education and if it worked it would be great but from what i see and hear people are not going to hold back from killing something, anything, if they have a tag in their pocket and shoot say a spike, in a heartbeat, instead of a doe. I know guys that would rather rip their arm off than say they didnt kill a buck last year. And then you have the ones that that shoot a small buck and then make an excuse of why they took a small one. Its tough to make any choices to keep all happy and there will be much give and take if they change things up.
  8. So there..depending on how much land you have..will be say 1000 acres that will have maybe Ar and a one buck rule. Now take the number of hunters total and do the math. My math says there will be alot of mature deer on that property in a couple short years. What % out of all those hunters will see and harvest a legal buck? and if they do, it will only be 1. Things will add up fast if its good land and the right number of females are taken.
  9. Those 4 are from last week of 33 dogs taken, They all get skinned and sold between the group. There will be over 100 taken before winter is over. There are piles of them that get away and run back onto the military base and off limits. These guys run dogs about every day in a 30 mile swath around our farm.
  10. 2 hours, 3 Dogs, 3 snowmobiled hunters on 300 acres. Way too many vermin in some areas of our state and this is one of them for sure!
  11. If that freshly killed 8pt buck shot with a rifle was taken illegal on top of all those others then Oh Yeah..Truck and all gone. Im afraid if not they will just get fines and lose some hunting, of which they will do anyways. Sad the little fines they have for game violations in some places.
  12. Problem is..If you read the post it says he had an 8pt buck in the back. Didnt say it was not a legal deer. They cant pull a guys truck because he MIGHT have had an illegal deer in there at one time or another! They will get the truck and guns back when a lawyer gets ahold of it. They will take a big time fine and no hunting for a few years...Like that will bother them...But they cant confiscate something on a..Might have been involved in a crime...dont work that way.
  13. And thats just it...Hunters are not so Mgmt steps in. They are starting to move in the right direction by splitting the state even smaller. This Northern and Southern tier does not cut it because even in areas inside of those areas some have no deer where as others have an over population.
  14. Yes and i hardly believe there are to many deer in very many areas. Acorns helped yes but when you beat the brush in areas that were always known to carry numbers and find few deer and a lot less sign, the deer are not there. This time of year the deer are together wherever life treats them best at this time of year and then come fall one just has to look at the best ran/Managed land that has great eats and low hunting pressure and you will find the deer. Places that are open game year in and year out and even heavy hunted farmland have low numbers.
  15. Ya i wouldn't want him rippin arrows at me but the..Lets shoot at an arrow that someone just shot at me thing? Nah..
  16. Your 100% right but it gets a little old reading the same crap time and time again. .
  17. I guess you cant read the posts. Every post i reply to one person always has to bring up my deer farm and believe it or not..My hair. This thread again had nothing to do with either yet someone seems to feel the need to bring both those items into the thread. I made the statement that they must be jealous because they have neither and they bring them up time after time in threads that have nothing to do with either. Has nothing to do with what someone makes for a living.
  18. Yeah well you have the power at your little finger. Do your job about the one that causes all this bullshit!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its just been proven to you Mod's again where the root of the problem is. I dont think it can be spelled out any clearer for ya!
  19. Oh that name calling gets me every time, digs me deep! This just shows that its you that brings up my great deer and my great hair again and again and like i told ya before its a FACT and its just been shoved in your face again with more proof. I guess you want to be like Mike. I have no clue but you make it pretty simple to show who has the problem. I hope its only that your jealous because you know i am a married man right?
  20. Well lets see here. This thread is about gun shops closing and nothing about deer hunting. Would you like to go back on here and show everyone who was the first person to bring up any kind of high fence hunting or deer? Here let me help you. Posted Today, 11:47 AM Four Season Whitetails, on 23 Jan 2015 - 11:35 AM, said: Oh man, this is funny! I've asked this before, what should I be jealous of? Your mullet?? You sell a few freakin penned up deer and you think your face and mullet should be pictured under the word capitalism? Please spare us. The only FACTS that do NOT need any backing is that you know WAY less than you give yourself credit for. You keep talking and we keep laughing. Now again this shows us all something. you are fixated on my deer and you must either have a problem with someone with hair or is it the style? Would you rather i put it in a ponytail, do you like that look better in a fella? If you think you can stick to the thread and come up with something that makes a little sense then please carry on but please go get yourself some deer and see a hair stylist and leave mine out of the conversation.
  21. Yeah right sweetheart. You always bring up my awesome whitetails...Something you cant have..Jealous much at all? Right we can see. You bring up my full head of hair( Really in a hunting forum) Let me guess. You are bald? So Sorry. Credit is earned and proven. I have shown and done both many times over. I am starting to think you really do have a crush on me and want my life. Thank god Andy let us keep our guns huh... Scary! Trust me people do laugh about ya... I get the pm's.
  22. Really...Coming from you.. You only wish you knew or had the experience that i have been smart enough to earn. What people see is how jealous you are and try and only pick my post's apart. Sorry , Its obvious you have a long way to go.You dont want to see change because you know you dont have what it takes to keep up. You keep working at it and those that can prove they know what they talk about and can back up their words with facts will walk you through it!
  23. Dude, This shows how much you read shit into peoples posts. I hunt every season on my own property on both ends of the state. Minus Crossbow..For now anyway! Is bow my first choice..You bet ya! If you think my me saying no guns during the rut is a plug for archery hunting then you headed in the wrong direction. That would be a plug for the hunted more than the hunter.
  24. Right. Me and the thousands of others that like to hunt something that takes a little skill to get the job done. No need to move when all that is already here. Just need a little Mgmt and for the state to listen to those that have the most vested and are willing to invest more in the state Be part of the growth or be on your way.
  25. Yes and the archery shops in those areas are booming with business. I broke a peep this year and went to a shop down in Pike and he had a few boxes of bullets on a shelf i was checking out as i waited for repairs. He said when those are gone there will be no more. Not worth the pain in the azzzz he says!
