Alright then, .... Come on DOWN, y'all... Actually, DELIVERANCE is my favorite LOVE story... I can just imagine the dialog ..... " Looks like we got us a SOW "..... " Take down them PANTIES, Boy..." Actually I never saw the movie..Those quotes were from the last pig roast at our local Legion post...

Nice job, Steve.. When I read the title of this thread I thought you said it was your first TALIBAN mount... I was wondering what part do you mount ? The BEARD ? The TURBAN.?....

Doe and Steve...Come on UP, y'all....<<BELCH>>.... Don't pay no mind to the BANJO music you hear when you get out of your truck. I'll make sure I have an extra jug of OLD BUSTHEAD stashed behind a stump..<<HIC>>...

Some of you folks don't know shit....<<grin>>... Porcupine droppings are pellets, very similar to rabbit turds, but more elongated. The shape is similar to gobbler " J " turds, , but turkey gobblers roost HIGH in trees and the droppings would not be concentrated in such a small area.. There is no doubt in my military mind that those are grouse droppings. Grouse tend to roost much closer to the ground than turkeys, which would explain why they are grouped so close together.

Geeze, WNY... Doe and Steve aren't BUTT BUDDIES, are they..??.. Not that there's anything WRONG with that...

Culver... I am a big fan of rare to MR game meat also, depending on the CUT, of course. However, bear meat ALWAYS has the risk of trichinosis. Think about it. Hogs eat ANYTHING...Bears eat ANYTHING... Read up on it.. It is a nasty affliction.. It involves wormlike creatures living in your muscle tissue, possibly including your HEART muscles. I think I'd eat my deer, elk , caribou ,moose and antelope rare, and use my bear meat for recipes that involve cooking it slow and well done, like stews. Eating bear less than well done is risky.

Earlier today there was a map of NY. Now there is a map of the entire western hemishpere. What is going on ? Did I push the wrong button on this foolish machine or what ???

Good luck on your Pa hunt. Hope you get a shot so you can report on how your Xbow performs.

The term is sarcasm, and no, I am not being sarcastic <<grin>>..Yeah, it works both ways, sometimes the sarcasm is intended but not recognized, and sometimes a perfectly innocent statement is taken the wrong way.. Communication is more difficult when facial expressions, body language, etc. cannot be observed. Add to that the fact that posters' writing , language and grammar skils vary widely.

Muzzyloader and I have known each other on a friendly basis for years. We used to work in ( and retired from) the same plant. Lawdwaz and I met and had a nice conversation about a year ago when I sold him a firearm . We've PMd a few times since then. I consider him a good online friend. He and I also share an avid interest in technical details such as gear, ballistics, and other such details involved in our sport, as well as an appreciation of quality gear. Stickin8s and I met a couple of weeks ago when he bought some ammo from me that I advertised on this site. We only talked briefly, but he seemed to be a very pleasant young fellow. Bubba and I swapped some loading components and exchanged a number of PMs. I'd hunt with Bubba any old time. Bubba and I have shared a few chuckles at the expense of some of the prima donnas on this forum.

There are so many good bullets. Any expanding type bullet that is designed for medium or big game and shoots accurately in your rifle will work fine for deer. As far as dropping them in thier tracks, that is a matter of shot placement, regardless of what bullet you use. If the bullet hits OR PASSES CLOSE ENOUGH TO the central nervous system, or breaks both shoulders, the deer will drop in its tracks. If it hits the heart/lung area but does not affect the CNS, the deer will run, but will pile up in a short distance, usually less than 100 yards. If you gut shoot it, or make a marginal muscle wound, you are in for a long tracking job and may not recover the deer. Those conditions apply regardless of what bullet you are using. Anybody who tells you otherwise has not seen many deer shot.

When you eat red meat 4 or 5 days a week but can't remember the last time you had beef.

I love the old ammo also, both shotshells and metallic. Whenever I find some old shells or cartridges, I set them aside. I am not a collector, I am an ACCUMULATOR. I have some stuff I never even knew they made, like Remington Express 28 gauge slugs ( green paper casings, of course). Ever hear of a 25-36 Marlin ? I have one, loaded by Remington.

Hmmmm... Seems that my "tongue in cheek" comment was taken seriously. Funny..That cop that arrested me for molesting and mugging that 82 year old Nun didn't have a sense of humor either. What a world..!...

Geeze, that reminds me...I need to buy another camoflage flask. Got drunk and dropped my old one out of my treestand last year....

The Sears shotshells were loaded by Federal. Federal also loaded shells for other chain stores, such as Western Auto ( Revelation) and Montgomery Ward.

I suspect that many such unwritten ethical ideas such as shooting birds on the ground come from our British and European heritage. Hunting traditions are very strong in The UK and Europe. In many places over there if you show up for a driven pheasnt hunt with a COLONIAL contraption such as a repeating shotgun, you won't be allowed to hunt. Side by sides are the norm, although they may begrudgingly allow an over/under. I'm not saying it makes a lot of sense, but I think that some of the traditional ideas of "fair chase" as it applies to hunting have thier roots in the British and European heritage that many of us share.

I am not aware of any specific Remington data. They do produce bullets and casings under thier brand name, but I am not aware of any reloading data under the Remington brand name.. Perhaps that is because they make so many factory loads, The Powders that the ammo producers use are generally either blends of different powders, or propritary powders that are not available to handloaders.

Gun shots at first light opening day of bow season sz
Pygmy replied to Dutchess hunter's topic in Bow Hunting
Pheasant season opened today also. -
What lawdwaz said.... If you want to carry a handgun on your hip, it is hard to beat a K frame Smith like the M-19 or M-66 in a four inch. Long enough sight radius so you and hit something, but not so much weight that it is a burden to carry.

Have you checked out the Marlin X7 series of bolt action rifles ? They have one for raffle at my local American Legion post and it looks like a real nice rifle. It has a trigger system similar to the Savage accutrigger and the reviews I have read about report real good performance. And it retails for well under $400.. Brand new. It might be worth checking out.
