  1. How easy is it to cock a crossbow in a vehicle? What bout poking a 17+ inch wide weapon out of a car window? Cock the weapon at home, it goes into the car locked and loaded. It can be fired from inside the vehicle through the window. That's why its the poachers weapon of choice. Just more gunners whining trying to hijack archery season.
  2. Just more whining by gunners trying to hijack archery season with crossbow use.
  3. The bill that is on the Gov's desk only allows crossguns during the regular and ML seasons. Therefore, I would interpret that to me no xgun in any of the archery seasons. But thats just my understanding of it.
  4. Ahh yes, the bowhunters are whiners because they won't roll over and give up a long established season quitely. Maybe you should go to France and try your takeover there.
  5. Hey, we just agreed on something! Shorten the dang gun season. If the DEC wants to sell a separate crossgun license give them the first week of gun season after the archery season ends. I just used Ohio to show you the numbers, that there are more crossgun hunters than bow hunters(at least the kills are more). Therefore, it would reason the same would happen in NY which means double the present kill and pressure.
  6. You can't compare NY to Ohio because their gun season is very very short which positively effects the number and quality of their herd. What I can take away from their numbers is that they have more crossgun hunters than bow hunters. They might as well call it crossgun season. If the cross gun was added to the NY archery season the hunting pressure would double from gun hunters crossing over as would the number of deer killed. Reduce the NY gun season to 6 days and then we can talk.
  7. That chart is hard to ear but it looks like 49k taken with crossgun and 42k taken with bow. Again, that tells me if we allowed crossguns in archery season the deer take would double and so would the hunting pressure with gun hunters crossing over to kill those 49k deer.
  8. I didn't suggest. I wrote in plain english "I suspect there is another agenda." Did I touch on something there? testy testy. Oh, and I love the way that when I produce proof of my position which you are demanding you just dismiss it with B.S. that you can't back up or prove.
  9. Sure I do. Just check with the Ohio DNR. Here are their deer take number for 2007: vertical bows 36,347 deer taken. crossgun 42,292 deer taken. That PROVES that if grossguns we legal in archery season in NY there would be twice as much pressure and the harvest would double.
  10. Hopefully crossguns will never be legal during archery season in NY allowing me to collect the proof you demand. I am telling you what WILL happen if they become legal and it concerns me that you don't care. How do I know what will happen, just hang around the gun clubs and rifle ranges and listen to the guys clammering for the opportunity to cross over into archery season with a crossgun. I ask them if they want me to show them how to use a compound so they could participate now but they decline stating "its too much work."
  11. Yep, those are the slob hunters we deal with during gun season.
  12. Culver, the concern is that because the crossgun is so similar to a rifle/shotgun there will be a large influx of gun hunters into the archery season. Probably doubling the amount of pressure on the deer. These folks are welcome in archery season but they must use archery equipment which takes some time and practice to learn and master.
  13. If that's true Steve that you have no interest in using one, then why the crusade? I suspect there is another agenda.
  14. You loose all credibility when you try to argue it takes the same amount of motion to pull the trigger of a crossgun as it does to draw a bow. give me a break. and by the way, that is the main reason it belongs in gun season (its locked and loaded point and shoot).
  15. Bubba, if you really think the compound bow was such an infringement was it was added such a long time ago why would you support the further deterioration of that season by adding another weapon that is not a stick bow? If the compound was a mistake why go further down that road? Is everything you say just a smoke screen to advocate crossguns and muzzleloader takeover of archery season? The main difference/advantage of the crossgun which puts it in the gun category is that it does not have to be hand drawn and manually held on the game animal when it approaches. With a crossgun you just lay the stock on your shooting rest, put the scope on the animal when it comes by, and then pull the trigger just like during gun season. You should know this being old school.
  16. Sour grapes guys?? What is sickening to me is the attempted hijack of the archery season using every lie and name calling in the book.
  17. I have as much proof as you do about the 22 cal Steve. Where is your proof? Besides the legislature and the DEC agree with me regarding the crossgun as the weapon of choice for poachers.
  18. Sorry guys, archery season was never up for grabs. Its an established season with a long history. A history that does not include crossguns or muzzleloaders. Bubba, I'm glad I hunt the southern zone. You guys up north are pretty radical.
  19. The poachers use the crossgun to jack deer silently from their vehicles. One guy drives and the other shoots out the side window from inside the vehicle. This is possible because the crossgun is mounted on a stock like a rifle and does not need to be drawn back which makes it able to be shot from inside a car in a sitting position. Stick it outside the window and now you have a nice bench rest. Poachers weapon of choice. Should be illegal during archery season.
  20. So what now? Gun hunters couldn't take a piece of the archery season with the crossbow so now(already) you start hammering away with the muzzleloader and how you want part of the early season. Have you no shame?
  21. I'm good with that. Looks like they got it right.
  22. Culver, I find your comments questionable. Opening day of gun season is usually around 40 degress on average. You want me to believe that an old guy in such bad condition can bow hunt but he can't handle 40 degrees so he quite hunting?? Any 12 yr old can draw a 40# bow. I see boys and girls alike do it. If she can't how the heck is she going to handle a heavy crossbow. Yes the key is getting the youth hooked early which is what archery season does. No need to immedialtely show them the easy route which takes no practice or commitment.
  23. No Steve, the whole argument boils down to the fact you have to draw and hold a bowsting on archery equipment but with a crossbow there is none of that making it akin to a gun.
